COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Four members of the Colorado State University Pueblo men's lacrosse team were named to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference First-Team All-Academic Team, including sophomore defender
Bergen Anderson (Lincoln, Neb./Southwest) being named the RMAC Men's Lacrosse Academic Player of the Year.
Along with the four Pack players named to the All-Academic First-Team, seven other Pack players earned a spot on the RMAC Academic Honor Roll that was announced by the league office on Tuesday morning.
Joining Anderson as an RMAC All-Academic First-Team selection were senior midfielder
Kevin Gallagher (Castle Rock, Colo./Castle View), sophomore attacker
Lane Lessley (Lakewood, Colo./Lakewood) and sophomore goalie
Connor Russell (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven).
With his RMAC Men's Academic Player of the Year selection, Anderson becomes the second Pack player to earn the honor as he joins Preston DeHerrera, who earned the honor in 2018.
To be eligible for First Team All-Academic consideration, a student-athlete must carry a 3.50 or above cumulative grade point average and must have been an active student at the institution for at least two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters.
First-Team All-Academic members were voted on by the conference's Sports Information Director and student-athletes not votes onto the First Team, and who carry a 3.30 cumulative GPA or higher, automatically qualify for the Honor Roll. The SIDs weren't allowed to vote for their own student-athletes.
Anderson, Gallagher, Lessley and Russell were four of the 13 players on the All-Academic Men's Lacrosse Team as Colorado Mesa led the way with seven overall selections, while Concordia-Irvine had two players selected.
Anderson, who was also named a Second-Team All-RMAC selection this season, carries a perfect 4.0 GPA in Civil Engineering Tech. In fact, Anderson was one of two players on the first team that have 4.0 GPA's. On the season, Anderson was second on the team in caused turnovers with 22 and added 12 ground balls and two assists. The 22 caused turnovers are tied for second-most on the school's single-season chart and was tied for fifth in the league in caused turnovers per game at 1.57. He finished the season with three or more caused turnovers in a game four times, including a career-high five against Westminster. Those five turnovers are tied for fifth-most in a game in school history.
Gallagher, who was a member of the RMAC Academic Honor Roll last year, carries a 3.97 GPA in Exercise Science. On the season, he played in 14 games and made one start and tallied eight goals and had two assists for a total of 10 points. Finished the season fourth on the team in shots with 47 and recorded 13 ground balls. Scored two or more goals each at Adams State and against Tusculum and recorded a career-high three points against Tusculum. Gallagher played in 37 career games and scored a total of 10 games and four assists for a total of 14 points.
Lessley, who was named to a First-Team All-RMAC selection last season, carries a 3.74 GPA in Criminology. During the 2024 season, Lessley played in 10 games and was third on the team in goals with 17 and added five assists for a total of 22 points. The 22 points were third-most on the team. Finished the season third on team in shots with 62 and added 12 ground balls and caused three turnovers. Scored two or more goals in a game five times, including a career-high five goals against Adams State. Those five goals were tied for 10th most in a game in school history. Sits seventh on the school's all-time chart in goals with 37 and his 50 career points are eighth on the school's all-time history.
Russell carries a 3.84 GPA in Computer Information Systems and earns his RMAC First-Team All-Academic Team after playing in 10 games and making five starts in the cage for the Pack in 2024. On the season, he recorded 62 saves and allowed 108 goals in 312 minutes of action in goal. He faced a total of 261 shots and added 23 ground balls and three caused turnovers. Russell's 62 saves are tied for fifth-most in a season in school history. Recorded a season-high 13 saves against Westminster and had eight or more saves in a game four times, including two teams with 10 or more saves.
