RESULTS
GOLDEN, Colo. (December 8, 2017) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's and women's track and field programs competed at the Colorado School of Mines Alumni Classic & Multi Thursday and Friday in Golden, Colorado. The ThunderWolves had three athletes improve on NCAA provisional marks, one establish a new provisional jump and two school records fall at the two day meet.
The women were again guided by Angelique Urenda (Pueblo, Colo.) and sophomore Lauren Fairchild (McKinney, Texas).
Urenda broke her own pole vault record she established last week (11' 8.5'' - 3.57m) by vaulting 12 feet and 0.75 inches (3.68m). The reigning Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week ranks sixth nationally in the pole vault. She also competed in the high jump and posted a mark of 5' 3.25" (1.61m) to finish fourth.
Fairchild improved her long jump mark by three inches and posted a leap of 18' 9" (5.71m). Last week's Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week also compted in four other events. She was in the triple jump, ran the 60m and 200m dash events, and ran the third leg of the 4x400m relay that finished first.
The other three members of the 4x400m relay team are freshman Hannah Kochen (Pueblo, Colo.), Hailey Streff (Madison, S.D.) and Yasmine Hernandez (Johnstown, Colo.). Streff also ran to second in the 800m with a time of 2:23.95. Hernandez led the Pack to a 2-3-4 finish in the 200m dash with a time of 26.59. Fairchild also ran in 26.59, while Kochen was fourth with a time of 27.22.
Sophomore Jenna McKinley (Mosca, Colo.) finished third in the shot put with a throw of 42' 6'' (12.95m).
For the men, one week after posting an NCAA provisional mark in the long jump, senior Ron Sweeten (Falcon, Colo.) hit a Division II mark in the triple jump. His leap of 48' 1.25" (14.66m) won the event and established a national mark that ranks seventh.
Sophomore Thomas Staines (Colorado Springs, Colo.) ran the 800m run in 1:55.45, which converted to an NCAA Division II provisional time of 1:52.12. The mark ranks third nationally and was 0.45 seconds faster than his NCAA time last week.
Junior Jacob Smith (Strasburg, Colo.) broke his own school record in the heptathlon and finished with 4446 points, just 200 outside the NCAA provisional standard.
Junior Shawn Horne (Camp Casey, South Korea) won the 400m dash with a time of 50.86, which converted to 49.68, just a second off the NCAA provisional mark. Sweeten, Staines, Horne and senior Dueth Vassell (Denver, Colo.) won the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:25.39.
The ThunderWolves will take about five weeks for holiday break and return to action Jan. 19-20 at the MLK Invitational at the ABQ Convention Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
