Rosenbrock finalst for NFFCC Academic Player of the Year to lead 28 all-academic recipients

NFFCC ACADEMIC RELEASE

BOULDER, Colo. (April 15, 2016) – Joe Rosenbrock (Brush, Colo.) was named a finalist for the National Football Foundation-Colorado Chapter Student-Athlete of the Year to lead a group of 28 members of the Colorado State University-Pueblo football team who were named 2015 NFFCC Academic All-Colorado, announced Monday by the organization.

The criteria to qualify were cumulative grade point averages of 3.3 or higher for first‐team status (3.0‐3.29 for honorable mention), and 70 percent participation rate (unless injured) and a regular (starter, regular in the game on a rotating basis or a specialist). GPA's are cumulative and through the fall 2015 semester. There were 162 student‐athletes made the team (91 first‐team, 71 honorable mention), which is made up of NCAA Division I and Division II football programs in Colorado.

With a 3.79 GPA in mathamatics, Rosenbrock, a 2015 CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team member, was a finalsist for the top academic honor in the state, which went to Colorado School of Mines offensive lineman Richie Rice.

The ThunderWolves led all schools with 21 first team members, while the 28 total honorees was also the best among the Colorado teams.

The ThunderWolves in 2015

The ThunderWolves went 12-2 overall for their third 12-plus win season in the last four years. The Pack went a perfect 9-0 for the fourth time in the last five years to earn their fifth consecutive RMAC Championship.

CSU-Pueblo earned the No. 4 seed in the NCAA Playoffs and made its fifth straight appearance in the Division II postseason Nov. 21. The ThunderWolves hosted No. 5-seed University of Indianapolis in the first round and won 27-14, then took to the road for their first-ever true road game in the playoffs. The Pack traveled to No. 1-seed Midwestern State University and downed the Mustangs 26-17 to earn a spot in the quarterfinals for the third time in the last four years. CSU-Pueblo suffered a 31-7 loss to No. 6-seed Grand Valley State University in the game at the Neta and Eddie DeRose ThunderBowl, to close the season and end the defense of the 2014 NCAA Division II National Championship.

The ThunderWolves finished fifth in both the American Football Coaches Association and D2Football.com national polls.

SPRING BALL AND SPRING GAME

The ThunderWolves are in the midst of spring ball. Below is the remaining spring ball schedule, which culminates with the annual spring game April 22 at 6 p.m. Prior to the Spring Game at the ThunderBowl, which is free and open to the public, the ThunderWolves invite the kids in the stands to come down and join them on the field to "Stretch with the Pack" beginning at 5:30 p.m.
