No. 11 Pack Has Strong Second and Fourth Quarters in Saturday's 49-13 Homecoming Win Over Fort Lewis

Victory Extends Pack's RMAC Win Streak to 21 Consecutive Wins and Improves to 17-0 in Homecoming Games Since 2008

PUEBLO, Colo. – The 11th-ranked Colorado State University Pueblo football team used a strong second and fourth quarter here Saturday afternoon as the ThunderWolves posted a 49-13 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference win over Fort Lewis College on Homecoming 2025 and Hall of Fame Day in the CSU Pueblo ThunderBowl.

With the victory, the Pack extended its win streak to five straight games and improved to 6-1 overall and 5-0 in the RMAC, while Fort Lewis fell to 1-5 overall and 0-4 in the league.

Along with winning its fifth straight game, the Pack also extended its RMAC win streak to 21 consecutive games, which is the longest active conference win streak in Division II football, and also improved the Pack to 17-0 in homecoming games since the program rebooted in 2008 and 33-6 overall in homecoming games since 1963.

The 49 points marked the third straight game of scoring at least 49 points as the Pack has now scored 301 on the season, which is tops in the league.

In Saturday's game, the Pack scored 21 unanswered points in the second quarter to hold a 28-0 lead at the half and then outscored the Skyhawks 21-0 in the fourth quarter after Fort Lewis had pulled within 28-13 at the end of the third quarter. The Pack has now outscored its six opponents 196-70 in the second and fourth quarters, respectively.

"We should've had another 14 points, but we fumbled the ball going into the end zone and threw a pick in the end zone, so obviously, we need to clean those things up, but overall, I am proud of this group," said CSU Pueblo head coach Philip Vigil following his 24th win with the Pack. "These games are hard because it's just about you, and you've got to make sure that your focus is where it needs to be, and these guys have continued to get better every single week, and we just have to keep getting better."

The Pack offense, which committed a season-high three turnovers that led to one of FLC's two third-quarter touchdowns, finished Saturday's game with a season-high 556 yards as they rushed 37 times for 194 yards and tied a season-high with four rushing touchdowns and passed for a season-high 362 yards, including senior quarterback Roman Fuller (Decatur, Texas/University of Tulsa) completing 68.4 percent of his passes as he was 26-for-38 for 348 yards and had three touchdown passes and just his second interception of the season. In addition, the Pack also collected a single-game school record 36 first downs.

"When we were able to execute and play to our standard, it's tough for anybody to stop us. Our defense was firing on all cylinders in the first half, but we just hit a lull in the third quarter, and that can't happen," the Pack coach added. "We talk about winning the middle eight, and we didn't win the middle eight today, and that is something that we have to learn from this game and grow from. But overall, to get a win like this on Homecoming and Breast Cancer Awareness today meant a lot to our guys and our fans, and I was happy with our production today."

With his performance, Fuller has now thrown for 3,646 career yards and has tossed 37 career touchdowns and moved into third place in career pass completions (283) and fifth in career pass attempts (432). Fuller has now thrown for 200 more yards in nine of his last 10 games.

Redshirt senior Reggie Retzlaff (Corona, Calif./Riverside City College) continued his strong play as he caught seven passes for 96 and hauled in two touchdown passes, both of which came in the fourth quarter. With his performance, Retzlaff made history in the win as he became the school's all-time leader in career receiving yards (2,534 yards) and tied the school's career record for receptions (152) and pushed his school record receiving touchdown mark to 34. Paul Browning, who played for the Pack from 2011-14, was the school record holder in receiving yards (2,507) and receptions (152).

"Reggie is just a special, special player and an even better kid. He's a great leader and comes out to practice every single day and works his butt off," Vigil said. "Really proud of him and his accomplishments, but we're not done yet with him."

The Pack, who lost the coin toss for the second straight game, received the ball first in Saturday's game, and they took that opening possession and drove 85 yards in 16 plays and capped the drive with a 5-yard touchdown pass from Fuller to senior receiver Zack Rakowsky (Loveland, Colo./Loveland) to take a 7-0 lead with 8:37 left in the opening period. The 16-play drive was the longest of the season for the Pack.

Following Rakowsky's touchdown, Fort Lewis would give the ball back to the Pack on its opening possession as junior linebacker Bryson Torrie (Denver, Colo./Vista Peak) picked off a Jake Jones pass and returned it 12 yards to the Pack's 38-yard line. Five plays later, though, the Pack appeared headed for a touchdown as senior running back Devin Cross (Pflugerville, Texas/Midwestern State) caught a 24-yard pass from Fuller, but on the 1-yard line, Cross fumbled the ball and the Skyhawks recovered the ball in the end zone.

Torrie's interception was his team-high tying third of the season as the Pack has now collected 14 interceptions, which is tops in Division II.

The Pack pushed its lead to 14-0 midway through the second quarter on a 2-yard touchdown run by redshirt senior running back Kiahn Martinez (Denver, Colo./University of Idaho).

After a three-and-out by the Skyhawks, the Pack offense took over the ball on its 40-yard line after a FLC punt that went out of bounds, and four plays later, the Pack took a 21-0 lead following a 6-yard touchdown run by redshirt freshman running back Russell Patton (Denver, Colo./MLK Jr. Early College) with 3:50 left in the quarter. The big plays on were drive were back-to-back passing plays of 28 yards to Retzlaff and 24 yards to Rakowsky.

The Pack defense would create a turnover on FLC's next possession as sophomore defensive lineman A.J. Jordan (Colorado Springs, Colo./Vista Ridge) sacked FLC quarterback Jacob Morris, and on the play, Morris fumbled the ball, and sophomore defensive lineman Davonte McCleveland (Dallas, Texas/Southern Nazarene) recovered the ball to give the Pack possession at the FLC 9-yard line.

On the first play of the drive following the fumble, Martinez scored a touchdown on a 9-yard run to give the Pack a 28-0 lead with 3:25 left in the opening half.

The Skyhawks received the second-half kickoff and drove 95 yards in 10 plays and capped the drive with a 1-yard touchdown run by KB Broadus to cut the Pack's lead to 28-7 with 10:12 left in the third quarter.

On the Pack's ensuing possession, the Pack drove 66 yards in eight plays and had the ball on the FLC 9-yard line, but Fuller threw a pass into the end zone that was picked off by Kalib Davis and Davis returned the interception 98 yards to the Pack 2-yard line before being tackled by junior receiver Dedrek Taylor-Akins (Fontana, Calif./Northeastern State). On the play, it appeared that the Skyhawks had 12 players on the field, but after a challenge by the Pack, the interception was upheld.

Three plays later, Broadus scored on a 1-yard run with 5:36 left in the third quarter to cut the Pack's lead to 28-13 after the extra point was missed.

Following that touchdown by Fort Lewis, the Pack took over the ball, but after three plays and 27 yards by the Pack, Patton fumbled the ball and gave the Skyhawks the ball at the Pack's 29-yard line.

The Skyhawks, though, would be held off the scoreboard as a 45-yard field goal attempt by Charles Parke hit the left upright to keep the score at 28-13 with 2:36 left in the period.

Following the missed field goal, the Pack offense would march down the field as they went 72 yards in eight plays and capped the drive with an 18-yard touchdown pass from Fuller to Retzlaff to give the Pack a 35-13 lead just 27 seconds into the fourth quarter.

After FLC's next drive stalled after five plays, the Pack took over the ball at its own 16-yard line and drove 84 yards in 10 plays and capped the drive with an 11-yard touchdown pass from Fuller to Retzlaff to give the Pack a 42-13 lead with 7:28 left in the game. On the drive, Fuller was 5-for-6 for 76, including a 22-yard pass to Retzlaff.

After a 3-and-out on FLC's next possession, the Pack drove 70 yards in nine plays and capped the drive with a 6-yard touchdown run by junior running back Moosah Alsaffar (Aurora, Colo./Grandview) to give the Pack a 49-13 lead with 1:39 remaining. On the drive, Retzlaff made his school-record tying 152nd reception on a pass from redshirt freshman quarterback Cam McGuire (Dallas, Texas/Woodrow Wilson).

In addition to Retzlaff's seven receptions for 96 yards, Taylor-Akins caught five passes for 59 yards and Rakowsky had four receptions for 64 yards. On the day, Fuller connected with 10 different pass catchers in the win.

Patton paced the Pack's ground attack with 69 yards on seven carries, while Martinez finished with 64 yards rushing on 14 carries. The 64 yards pushed his career total to 1,390 yards, which is 18th on the school's all-time rushing chart.

The Pack defense held Fort Lewis to a total of 233 yards as they rushed 38 times for 110 yards and were 11-for-20 passing for 123 yards. The defense forced two turnovers, collected five sacks, and had 10 tackles for a loss.

Broadus led the Skyhawks' offense with 60 yards rushing on 16 carries, while Jones had 37 yards on eight carries. Morris was 9-for-14 passing for 73 yards with Jamille Humphrey catching four passes for 60 yards.

Despite losing the turnover battle, 3-2, the Pack has a +11 turnover margin as they have forced 22 turnovers and have committed 11 turnovers. Additionally, the Pack went 7-for-8 in the red zone as they entered the game a perfect 26-for-26 in the red zone. The failed red zone attempt came on Fuller's third-quarter interception, which FLC returned 98 yards.

Torrie paced the Pack defense with eight tackles, while senior defensive tackle Kaleb Manning (Clute, Texas/Midwestern State) had two of the Pack's three sacks in the game.

The Pack will look to make it six consecutive wins as they travel to Spearfish, S.D., for a 1:05 p.m. game against Black Hills State (1-6 overall, 1-4 RMAC), who suffered a 56-17 loss on Saturday at fifth-ranked Western Colorado.
