CSU-Pueblo Women's Lacrosse hangs around with No. 7 Lock Haven

PUEBLO, Colo. (March 9, 2016) Colorado State University Pueblo women's lacrosse kept it close for a half against No. 7 Lock Haven University. However, the Bald Eagles pulled away with a 19-9 win Wednesday at the Art & Lorraine Gonzales Lacrosse Stadium.

CSU-Pueblo trailed by only two goals at the half, but ended up dropping to 1-2 on the young season.  The Pack scored on each of the nine shots they put on goal.

Leah Neumann (So., Naperville, Ill.) led the Pack with four points. Neumann scored three goals and added one assist. The transfer from Lindenwood University also topped the team with four ground ball pick-ups and two caused turnovers.

Freshman Sami LaBella (Pleasanton, Calif.)  netted three goals, the most of her young career. LaBella and Neumann both scored on 100 percent of their shots.

Allye Webb (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) got the Pack on the board early. After Lock Haven scored each of their first two goals, Webb answered with a tally of her own to tie the game. She now has six goals in two games this season.

CSU-Pueblo took a 3-2 lead almost 10 minutes into the game when LaBella scored her first of the contest. However, Lock Haven responded with the next three goals to take a 5-3 lead.

Neumann brought the Pack back within one with a goal of her own on the extra player opportunity. Taylor Christensen (Fr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) added her second assist of the first period on Neumann's strike that made it 5-4 with 6:13 left.

After the Bald Eagles got one back, Allison Wurscher (Fr., Tigard, Ore.) rocketed in her third goal of the season to make it a one-goal game once again. Lock Haven scored one more before halftime to take a 7-5 lead into intermission.

The Bald Eagles seized control early in the third. Lock Haven potted four consecutive goals in the first five minutes to make it an 11-5 lead.

Neumann scored the Pack's next two goals on free position shots to make it a 12-7 Lock Haven lead. Neumann's goals came on the Pack's only two free position shots of the day.

Ahead by five, the Bald Eagles rattled off another four-goal run. This run sealed the 19-9 victory for Lock Haven.

Goaltender Ane Marie Horton (Fr., Long Beach, Calif.) took her first collegiate loss. Horton stopped 10 of the 29 shots she faced.

The Pack will try to get back in the win column as they continue their six-game homestand Saturday against Adams State University. CSU-Pueblo's Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opener against the Grizzlies begins at 4 p.m. at the Art & Lorraine Gonzales Lacrosse Stadium
