PUEBLO, Colo. (November 1, 2015) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's soccer team dropped its regular season finale 2-1 Sunday against Colorado School of Mines at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Soccer Stadium.
Mackenzie Paquette (Jr., D, Phoenix, Ariz.) netted his fourth goal of the season in the 68th minute, heading in a beautifully placed ball from Connor Marth (So., D, Tulsa, Okla.) off a corner kick high into the center of the net, beyond the reach of the goalkeeper.
The eighth-ranked Orediggers broke the scoreless affair in the 23rd minute on a free kick from outside the box.
After forty-five minutes, each team managed six shots while CSM held 1-0 corner kick advantage.
Jack Gonzales (R-Sr., D, Centennial, Colo.) and Sam Glawe (Sr., Mid., Allen, Tex.) each recorded two shots in the half.
In the second period, CSU-Pueblo picked up its intensity level, possessing the ball in Oredigger territory for much of the half.
The ThunderWolves earned three corner kick attempts to CSM's two.
Senior forward Matt Marchena (Littleton, Colo.) gathered three attempts at the net to pace the Pack.
The score went unchanged at the end of regulation.
CSU-Pueblo goalkeeper Sam Haseltine (Sr., St. Louis, Mo.) played another strong game in goal, facing 18 shots including two penalty kick attempts.
Haseltine was successful in saving the first penalty kick attempt in the 49th minute.
In overtime, CSM drove the ball up midfield and was awarded a penalty kick in the 94th minute. The attempt was successful for the Orediggers, coming away with the 2-1 win.
Celebrating senior day at the pitch, Pack head coach Roy Stanley and coaching staff recognized seven departing players who made their final appearances at home for the Pack.
The players honored in a pregame ceremoney were Glawe, Gonzales, Haseltine, Marchena, TJ Thiebaut (Sr., Mid., Pueblo, Colo.), Ben Jepson (D, Manchester, United Kingdom), and Tobias Buengen (Mid., Germany).
CSU-Pueblo (10-8, 5-5 RMAC) clinched an RMAC Tournament berth, earning the sixth seed and face third-seeded UC-Colorado Springs Wednesday at Mountain Lions Stadium.
