GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (October 18, 2015) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision at Colorado Mesa University Sunday at Walker Field.
Playing in the final road game of the regular season, CSU-Pueblo struggled offensively to start the game, playing defense for much of the first half.
The Pack defense led by Zach Davis (R-So., Tucson, Ariz.) and TJ Thiebaut (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) each had a strong first half, fending off ten shots in the opening period.
"Our guys' legs were tired today," Pack head coach Roy Stanley. "Playing Friday and with Mesa playing one game this week really showed."
CSU-Pueblo trailed in the shots category at the half and held the Mavericks to one corner kick.
Beginnning the second half, the ThunderWolves opened with its first shot of the contest.
Matt Marchena (Sr., F, Littleton, Colo.) led the way for the Pack firing two shots at the net.
The Mavericks broke the scoreless game in the 49th minute and held on the rest of the way to secure the win.
Aaron Strunk (Jr., Mid., Springfield, Mo.) played well defensively for the Pack.
CSU-Pueblo (7-7-0, 3-5-0 RMAC) returns home Friday to entertain South Dakota Mines. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Soccer Stadium.
