SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Colorado State University Pueblo men's soccer team completed a perfect opening weekend Saturday with a 2-0 shutout victory over Sul Ross State on a neutral pitch at the Texas A&M-San Antonio Multisport Facility.
CSU Pueblo (2-0) controlled the match from the opening whistle, outshooting the Lobos 18-1 while recording its second consecutive clean sheet to begin the 2026 campaign.
The ThunderWolves wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as Jamal Bynum found the back of the net just 2:01 into the match. The goal was Bynum's second of the weekend after he scored the game-winner in Thursday's 1-0 season-opening victory over St. Mary's.
The Pack carried its 1-0 advantage into halftime before Pedro Martinez Castro provided some insurance in the 70th minute, scoring his first goal of the season to extend the lead to 2-0.
CSU Pueblo's defense kept Sul Ross State in check throughout the match, limiting the Lobos to just one shot as the ThunderWolves finished their opening weekend in San Antonio with two victories, two shutouts and six points.
"Great game overall, we had the ball a lot and created loads of chances," CSU Pueblo Head Coach Thomás Pazo said. "We all wish we had scored more goals, especially with the number of chances created. However, I am super happy with the team performance and with another clean sheet. Being able to score on another two set pieces is also huge.
"I am excited for this group and to get to work with them this week. Having a full week is not common in college soccer and we will take advantage of the time to prepare for our next match. I am super proud of the guys for coming to Texas and getting six points and two clean sheets. We have a long way to go, but it is certainly an amazing start. We keep working and we keep growing!"
Pazo also expressed his appreciation for the ThunderWolves fans who supported the team during its opening weekend in Texas.
