PUEBLO, Colo. (Gonzales Soccer Complex) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's soccer team opened a three-game homestand Sunday, falling to the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks,2-1.
Playing to a scoreless tie through the first 45 minutes, the ThunderWolves went toe-to-toe with the Skyhawks as they each managed eight shots in the half.
The Pack began the second half battling for possession and was active offensively. Jonny Sawyer (Sr., Forward, Aurora, Colo.) had a strong outing, firing off four shots, two on goal.
Fort Lewis broke the tie in the 57th minute on a missed played ball from the goalkeeper, giving the Skyhawks the 1-0 lead.
Both teams would end the game with 16 shots each.
The Skyhawks took a 2-0 lead in the 73rd minute when Luke Lawrence took a ball 1-on-1 down field past a diving Sam Haseltine (R-Jr., St. Louis, MO).
Haseltine gathered six saves on sixteen shots from the Skyhawks.
Despite being down, the Pack offensive attack never relinquished. Jon-Michael Krasovic (Sr., Defender, Pueblo, Colo.) took a corner kick in the 88th minute, with a beauty of a ball to a waiting Zach Davis R-Fr., Tucson, Ariz.), who connected with the back of the net, cutting the lead in half, 2-1. It is Davis' second goal this season.
CSU-Pueblo had an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks.
A late rally would fall short for the Pack.
CSU-Pueblo (2-8, 1-5 RMAC) will remain at home and next play Wednesday, October 8th against UC-Colorado Springs. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Art & Lorraine Gonzales Soccer Complex.
