Pack loses 4-0 in a vocal bout

Pueblo, Colo (Gothunderwolves.com - Oct. 18, 2013) The last time the Colorado State University-Pueblo men's soccer team played the Fort Lewis Skyhawks, they lost 1-0 on an own goal in an evenly matched affair.

The next time the two teams would meet, the result would be much more one-sided.

The ThunderWolves lost to the Skyhawks 4-0 on Oct. 18 in a heated contest that kept the officials busy.

After a first half that saw the Skyhawks score only one goal, the Skyhawks scored three goals, including two in a 5 minute span, in the second half.

"If we can't defend better than that, we aren't going to win any games," head coach Roy Stanley said.

The game also featured 3-of-the-6 yellow cards called for language; two coming from the Skyhawks and one on the T-Wolves.

"I think some referees are more sensitive to it," Stanley said. "I just think some referees call it closer than other referees. Other referees will call if it's something that only him and the person five yards away heard, he'll just say 'hey, watch your language.'"

With the game out of reach by the 70th minute, the T-Wolves began to concede by replacing the starters with bench players to conserve energy, according to Stanley. As each starter left the field, Stanley met them with a subtle motion of encouragement.

"That's just a formality that I think that they deserve my respect, and yes they're being subbed and that's not anything that's an insult to them," Stanley said. "It's just a way to show respect to them as a player. They put their heart into it and I just want to go up and say thanks."

Next up, the T-Wolves will travel to Alamosa, Colo. on Oct. 20 to take on the Adams State Grizzlies at noon.
