PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Sep. 18, 2012) - Playing in their third game in five days, the CSU-Pueblo men's soccer team fell to #7 Regis, 7-1. Regis' Martin Maybin scored four goals to lead the Rangers past the Pack in their second meeting of the season.
The Pack looked solid early on, looking to develop chances with their passing and movement. The offense looked crisp throughout the first half as they led 8-7 in shots at one point.
Regis finally broke through at 17:45 on a deep shot from Maybin. Maybin took a strike from 35-yards out that beat the keeper to the upper corner.
Maybin would add one more goal in the first half off a header from Taylor Diem, who received a pass off a free kick from Logan Miller. Maybin finished the goal with a header of his own in what was a bang bang play.
The ThunderWolves, a team that has started slow at times but finishes strong, looked to be back in the game early in the second half when Mountan Mitchell (RFr., Kailua, Hawaii) struck for his second goal of the season. Sawyer cleaned up the opportunity on a ball played into the box by Jon-Michael Krasovic (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.).
But just when it seemed the Pack would jump back in the game, the Rangers answered with two goals within 30 seconds of themselves. The first goal came on a penalty kick awarded to the Rangers and the third on a great individual effort by Justin Ortinau.
Maybin would finally put the game out of reach with his third and fourth goals of the evening.
"I want to give credit to them, they're a great team, a number one, two or three team and one we are striving to be," coach Roy Stanley said.
The Pack will look to get their first conference win of the season when they play host to Colorado Christian at 7 p.m. Friday.
