Kinsey passes Miller for career points leader with 82
ALAMOSA, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Oct. 2, 2011) - The Pack turned in a historical performance Sunday with their 3-0 win over Adams State. Not only did coach Roy Stanley collect his 300th win in the CSU-Pueblo soccer program but with a four-point performance Robert Kinsey (Sr., Denver, Colo.) becoming the school's leader in career points.
The game started slow for the Pack and each team fired off nine shots in the first half. Even with all the shots both teams were able to go into the half knotted even 0-0.
In the second half the Pack came alive beginning with Kinsey. Kinsey was able to work his way into the box before finding Jonny Sawyer (Fr., Aurora, Colo.) who finished for his third goal of the season and the first of the game.
The Grizzlies weren't going to go away easy and almost had an equalizer that was denied by Jacob Blum (Sr., Peoria, Ariz.). Cody Sprouse fired a shot that was tipped by Blum away before hitting off of the crossbar. The save proved to be a huge momentum shift as the Pack went back on the attack.
In the 77' Kinsey struck again, this time feeding Rene Chacon (RFr., Pueblo, Colo.) who beat one defender before beating the keeper to the left side.
To add to the two point performance Kinsey pulled off his greatest feat on a pass from Ryan Hunter (Jr., Goodyear, Ariz.). Hunter was able to find Kinsey in the box who again showed his goal scoring touch beating a diving keeper.
With the four point effort, Kinsey passes Craig Miller for the career all-time lead with 82 points. The goal also moves Kinsey closer to tying Miller who also is the all-time leader in goals with 32. He needs just two more goals to be tied in that category.
"It was a good win because we scored goals, but I was more excited about the fact that even though it was 0-0 at halftime we showed good confidence and worked hard as a team," Stanley said.
The win also helped coach Stanley to his 300th win in his career. Stanley previously coached at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock until 1994 when he came to CSU-Pueblo. Stanley was the head coach of both the men's and women's program from 1994 until 2006 when resigned from the women's position to focus on the men's program.
The Pack returns home from a three-game road trip Friday when they host Colorado Mines. Kick off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
