Pack play even to defending national
champions

PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Oct. 24,
2010) - It wasn't a win but the ThunderWolves stood
toe-to-toe with defending national champions, Fort Lewis to earn a
1-1 tie in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. The tie helped
the Pack earn a birth into the RMAC playoffs with a chance for
Colorado State University-Pueblo to improve it's seeding in their
final two games.
The Pack fell behind in the 20th minute when Joey Madigan sent
a free kick into the box that found Byron Cephers who headed the
ball to Jamie Cunningham for the opening goal. CSU-Pueblo battled
physically with the Skyhawks keeping things even for the remainder
of the first half.
In the second half the Pack controlled much of the game before
finally evening things up in the 81st minute. Chad Smith
(Fr., Las Vegas, Nev.) received a nice pass
from Robert
Kinsey (Jr., Denver, Colo.) before
finishing the shot to tie the game 1-1.
Jacob Blum
(Jr., Peoria, Ariz.) was stellar in net
allowing only one goal and finishing the game with 16 saves,
tying a CSU-Pueblo record for saves. The record was originally
set by Mike Clark in 1993, a game against Colorado College.
CSU-Pueblo had an opportunity to win the game in the first overtime
when Kinsey, who had an open net, saw his shot hit the crossbar
preserving the tie for the Skyhawks.
The Pack has played brilliantly at home this season playing to a
4-1-1 record. The ThunderWolves have a chance to improve on this
record as they play their final two games at home against Mesa
State and Metro State.
The game against Mesa State will be Friday at 3:00 p.m. and the
final regular season game against Metro State is scheduled for
Sunday at noon.
