Metro State 2, #24 CSU-Pueblo 1 (2OT)
PUEBLO, Colo. - CSU-Pueblo's mastery of Metro State ended
Sunday as the Pack was on the short end of a 2-1 double-overtime
win vs. the Roadrunners.
The game was ended when Mike Martinez fielded a pass from Tyler
Hambrick in the 108th minute for the game-winner.
CSU-Pueblo Head Coach Roy Stanley said he was pleased with the
hustle, the focus and determination his guys have continued to
show.
The overtime was set up midway through the second-half by the
ThunderWolves when Erik Andersen (Sr.,
Phoenix, Ariz.) continued his hot streak and netted his
fourth consecutive goal in as many games, extending what is now the
second-longest consecutive goal-scoring streak in CSU-Pueblo
history, after hitting home an unassisted goal in the 64th
minute.
The Pack defense continued to hold strong for the remainder of
regulation, turning the Roadrunners away on numerous
opportunities. Metro State outshot the Pack 18-8, including
4-2 in the overtime periods, which included the fateful
game-winner.
The ThunderWolves' loss drops their conference record
at 0-2 while moving their overall mark to 4-3.
Metro State improves to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in RMAC play.
CSU-Pueblo will now embark on an important four-game road trip
vs. RMAC foes, beginning Friday at UC-Colorado Springs, a pivotal
game in the all-important Steel and Silver Series between the two
universities.
"This obviously is a big four-game stretch for us away from our
homefield, with this tough weekend we still believe we still are
one of the top 3 teams in the RMAC," Stanley said. "We just
continue taking it one game at a time."
