Pueblo, Colo. ---> The CSU-Pueblo men's soccer team played
one of their most physical games of the year today at the Rawlings
Sports Complex, as No. 24 CSU-Pueblo fell to Regis Univ. 2-1 in the
RMAC opener for both teams. With the loss the Pack drops to
4-2 (0-1 RMAC) as the Rangers picked up their
third win on the year at 3-2 (1-0 RMAC).
The game started out quickly as both teams came out mentally and
physically ready to play. In fact, the game was physically
intense between both teams as they combined for an unbelievable 35
fouls, 6 yellow cards, and even a red card.
Battling for possession most of the first half, the Rangers
struck first in the 9th minute to take the lead 1-0. The score
would remain 1-0 for most of the first half until the 39th
minute when a collection of players in front of the CSU-Pueblo goal
gathered and battled for possession. Erik Andersen
(Sr., Phoenix, Ariz.) received the ball and in
one quick motion delivered to the back of the goal, scoring
his third consecutive goal in as many games.
The second half once again was just as physical as the first
half. Both teams combined for 23 fouls in the
second half alone. Five of the seven yellow and red cards
were issued in the wild and crazy second half. In the 67th
minute, the Rangers' quick offense struck again with a swift kick
to the back of the net giving the Rangers a 2-1 advantage with
twenty minutes left in play. In all the excitement
Dylan Cook
(Sr., Albuquerque, N.M.) had to be removed from
the game when he received a gash to the forehead in the 78th
minute. The Pack would then be shut down for the remaining
few minutes, falling 2-1.
The Pack will look to regain focus on Sunday when they host
Metro State at 2:30 pm. Prior to this game, the CSU-Pueblo
women soccer will host Nebraska-Kearney at noon.
