UC-Colorado Springs 1, CSU-Pueblo 0
The Pack was unable to get quality chances in front of the net
Sunday, losing a frigid affair to UC-Colorado Springs 1-0.
The ThunderWolves' loss pits CSU-Pueblo in a nearly
insurmountable hole in the "Steel and Silver Series," the
all-sports competition between the two schools. After falling
to a season sweep at the hands of the Mountain Lions, giving the
men's soccer points in the series to UCCS, the ThunderWolves trail
by a 10-0 margin.
The Pack showed some flashes, especially in the second half,
when it held UCCS to just two shots, controlling the ball for
nearly the entirety of the half. But the Pack offense
routinely broke down in front of the UCCS goal, where nearly every
shot attempt either flew wide or hit a black and gold body.
The Pack owned the advantage in corner kicks (12-3) and shots
(14-12), but the only advantage that mattered, the score, was in
UCCS' favor since Mike Mason netted a goal midway through the first
half for UCCS, leaving the Pack to play catch up for the remainder
of the match.
"I felt we did the right things and played smart soccer," Pack
coach Roy Stanley said, "But we just couldn't get good
opportunities. At the end of the game, the word that stands
out is 'unlucky,' because I felt for the most part we took care of
business."
The loss is the Pack's third in the past four games and sixth in
the past eight games. CSU-Pueblo, now 6-7 overall and 2-6 in
RMAC play, will look to resurrect its fledgling playoff hopes when
it travels to Denver to take on Metro State Friday
