Wrestling at 149 pounds, Gavin Melendez (R-Sr., Los Banos, Calif.) helped to lead the Pack wrestling team an upset win over No. 21 Western Colorado in their first dual of the season. The Pack later fell against No. 20 University of Mary in the second dual.
In the first matchup against the Mountaineers, Melendez picked up three team points after he defeated his opponent by tech fall, 19-4 against WCU's Jacob McCarley.
During his next outing against UMary's Trevor Fauver, Melendez scored early and earned a 4-0 shutout victory.
The Pack wrestling squad travel this week for another twin bill of duals Saturday at San Francisco State and against Simon Fraser, hosted by SFSU.
