SHERIDAN, Wyo. – The No. 19-ranked Colorado State University Pueblo men's golf team opened its 2026-27 season Sunday with the first round of the Travis Roy Memorial, hosted by South Dakota Mines at Powder Horn Golf Club.
The ThunderWolves posted an opening-round team score of 24-over-par 312 on the par-72 layout and sit in 12th place in the 12-team field heading into Monday's second round.
Paraic McGrath led the way for the Pack after carding a 2-over-par 74 to sit tied for 18th on the individual leaderboard.
McGrath made the turn at 2-over after shooting a 38 on his opening nine before playing his final nine holes at even-par with a 36. He recorded three birdies during his season-opening round, including a birdie on the par-5 fifth before adding two more on the back nine at the par-4 13th and par-3 17th holes.
Jake Johnston turned in the second counting score for CSU Pueblo with a 4-over-par 76 and sits tied for 34th entering Monday's second round.
Johnston responded in impressive fashion following a difficult opening nine. After making the turn with a 6-over 42, Johnston caught fire on the back nine and played his final nine holes in 2-under-par 34. He recorded birdies on the par-4 16th and par-4 18th holes to close his round and gain valuable shots back for the ThunderWolves.
Parker Shaw provided the Pack's third counting score with a 7-over-par 79. Shaw opened with a 5-over 41 on his first nine before settling in with a 2-over 38 coming home. He will enter the second round tied for 54th individually.
Luke Shelton rounded out CSU Pueblo's four counting scores on Sunday with an 11-over-par 83. Shelton carded rounds of 44 and 39 on his two nines and sits tied for 66th.
Also competing for the ThunderWolves were Cole Kratz and Jayden Padilla.
Kratz opened his tournament with a 12-over-par 84 and is tied for 68th. He began the day with a 3-over 39 on his opening nine before finishing with a 45 on the back.
Padilla rounded out the six-player CSU Pueblo lineup with a 14-over-par 86. Padilla started strongly with a 2-over 38 through his first nine holes before closing with a 48 to finish the opening round in 71st place.
Sunday's round marked the beginning of another campaign for head coach Josh Koschke and the nationally ranked ThunderWolves, who enter the season ranked No. 19 nationally.
CSU Pueblo will return to Powder Horn Golf Club on Monday for the second round of the Travis Roy Memorial before the 54-hole tournament concludes Tuesday with the final round.
