PUEBLO, Colo. (August 12, 2026) — The Colorado State University Pueblo Foundation is set to celebrate the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new ThunderBowl turf on Tuesday, Aug. 18. The ribbon cutting event will begin at 5:30 p.m. on the ThunderBowl Pack House patio. 

The new turf is part of a continued investment in the ThunderBowl, which serves as the home of CSU Pueblo ThunderWolves football and hosts a wide range of community events, including high school games, football camps and other activities.

The turf replacement project received $250,000 in support from the NFL Grassroots Turf Replacement Grant, which helps fund turf improvements for colleges and other football facilities. The remaining project costs are being supported by Colorado State University Pueblo and the CSU Pueblo Foundation.

The new turf was installed by Rocky Mountain Turf Solutions, a local company that has been involved in turf replacement projects at several Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference facilities.

The ThunderBowl plays an important role in the Pueblo community, supporting athletics, campus events and regional economic activity while providing a shared gathering place for students, alumni, fans and community members.

At the ribbon cutting ceremony, the assembled guests will hear from CSU Pueblo Athletics, including head football coach Philip Vigil and Vice President of Athletics and Strategic Partnerships Dr. Paul Plinske and CSU Pueblo Foundation representatives, along with representatives from both the Southern Colorado Community Foundation and the Denver Broncos will also be in attendance.
