Colorado State University Pueblo Announces New Date for ThunderBowl Turf Ribbon Cutting

PUEBLO, Colo. (July 6, 2026) — The Colorado State University Pueblo Foundation has postponed the official ribbon cutting ceremony for the new turf replacement at the CSU Pueblo ThunderBowl.

The ceremony, originally planned for an earlier date, has been rescheduled for Tuesday, August 18, at 5:30 p.m. The decision comes as the ThunderBowl parking lots are currently being used as a base camp for firefighters responding to the Aspen Acres Fire near Pueblo.

"With the CSU Pueblo ThunderBowl parking lots serving as base camp for the Aspen Acres firefighters, we have decided to move the official ribbon cutting for the new ThunderBowl turf replacement to Tuesday, August 18, at 5:30 p.m.," said Todd Kelly, president and CEO of the CSU Pueblo Foundation.

The new turf is part of a continued investment in the ThunderBowl, which serves as the home of CSU Pueblo ThunderWolves football and hosts a wide range of community events, including high school games, football camps and other activities.

The turf replacement project received $250,000 in support from the NFL Grassroots Turf Replacement Grant, which helps fund turf improvements for colleges and other football facilities. The remaining project costs are being supported by Colorado State University Pueblo and the CSU Pueblo Foundation.

The new turf is being installed by Rocky Mountain Turf Solutions, a local company that has been involved in turf replacement projects at several Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference facilities.

The ThunderBowl plays an important role in the Pueblo community, supporting athletics, campus events and regional economic activity while providing a shared gathering place for students, alumni, fans and community members.

Additional details about the ribbon cutting ceremony will be shared as they become available.
