Jordan Bruere has announced the hiring of former ThunderWolves standout
Alea (Wildman) Stewart as an assistant volleyball coach. Stewart will begin her duties on Thursday, July 16.
A CSU Pueblo graduate and four-year starter for the ThunderWolves, Stewart returns to her alma mater after more than 15 years of coaching, strength and conditioning, and athlete development experience spanning the youth, club, high school, collegiate and professional levels.
"Bringing Alea back to CSU Pueblo is incredibly special because she represents everything our program stands for. As a standout outside hitter, she competed with passion, toughness and pride for the Pack," Bruere said. "What excites me even more is the person she is. Alea genuinely cares about the growth and success of young women, and that passion has been evident throughout her coaching career
"She has dedicated herself to mentoring and developing athletes, helping them grow not only as volleyball players but as people. Combined with her deep connection to our community and understanding of what it means to wear the Pack jersey, she is the perfect fit for our program. We couldn't be more excited to welcome Alea home and continue building the future of Pack Volleyball together."
Stewart most recently served as head coach, recruiting coordinator, strength and conditioning coach, and social media and marketing director for FCA One Volleyball Club at The Diff, where she oversaw player development, recruiting initiatives and club operations while continuing to train volleyball athletes of all ages. During the 2024-25 academic year, she also served as graduation coordinator and assistant to the vice principal at Lester Arnold High School.
Prior to that role, Stewart spent more than six years as the director of strength and conditioning and administrative operations manager at Slammers North Baseball and Softball. There, she designed and implemented performance programs for high school, collegiate and professional athletes while assisting with collegiate recruiting efforts.
Her coaching résumé also includes leadership positions with Sporting Club Volleyball-Boulder, Ballistic Volleyball Club and Impact Sports Performance. Throughout her career, Stewart has coached multiple nationally competitive club teams, coordinated camps and clinics, provided individual skill instruction, and developed strength and conditioning programs for athletes ranging from youth to the professional ranks. During her time with Ballistic Volleyball Club, eight of the 10 athletes on one of her teams continued their volleyball careers at the collegiate level.
"I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to return to CSU Pueblo—the place that shaped my foundation as both a player and coach," Stewart said. "The opportunity to pour into these young women, help them grow on and off the court, and continue serving under Jordan as she leads this program to even greater heights is something I don't take for granted. I'm honored and excited to get to work and contribute to the championship culture that's being built here."
As a ThunderWolf from 2008-12, Stewart was a four-year starter and graduated cum laude with a bachelor's degree in athletic training in 2013. She earned Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference All-Academic honors during her playing career and also served as a member of CSU Pueblo's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
In addition to earning her bachelor's degree from CSU Pueblo, Stewart is a Certified Athletic Trainer through the Board of Certification (BOC), is USAV IMPACT Certified, and holds CPR/First Aid certification.
