Young And Anstett Conclude Outstanding 800m Season On Day Two Of National Championship

EMPORIA, Kan. - Colorado State University Pueblo track and field wrapped up day two competition Friday at the 2026 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in Emporia, as the ThunderWolves continued action at Welch Stadium on the campus of Emporia State University.

The Pack once again battled through difficult weather conditions throughout the day, as cool temperatures and windy conditions continued to impact competition in central Kansas.

CSU Pueblo had two athletes compete in the 800-meter preliminaries Friday evening, with juniors Charlotte Young and Tim Anstett both representing the ThunderWolves on the national stage.

Young competed in the women's 800-meter preliminaries and clocked a time of 2:08.01 to place ninth overall nationally. Running in the second heat, Young led through the opening lap with a split of 1:02.90 before closing in 1:05.12 over the final 400 meters. Despite a strong effort, Young narrowly missed advancing into Saturday's national final.

On the men's side, Anstett ran a time of 1:49.84 in the men's 800-meter preliminaries to finish 12th overall nationally. The junior opened aggressively through the first lap, sitting in second place at the 400-meter split with a time of 54.74 seconds before closing in 55.10 over the final lap in a tightly contested race.

The ThunderWolves will now turn their attention to the final day of the NCAA Division II National Championships on Saturday. Reigning NCAA Division II Indoor National Champion Febe Wessels will kick off day three for the Pack as she competes in the women's shot put finals at 12:30 p.m. Central Time as CSU Pueblo looks to close out the national meet with multiple athletes competing for All-America honors and national championships.
