Wessels Earns RMAC Field Athlete of the Year as 19 ThunderWolves Collect All-RMAC Outdoor Track & Field Honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Following a season that produced a national champion, multiple All-Americans and nine NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championship qualifiers, Colorado State University Pueblo was well represented when the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference announced its 2026 Outdoor Track and Field All-RMAC Teams on Friday.

A total of 19 ThunderWolves earned All-RMAC recognition, combining for 22 individual honors across the men's and women's teams. Highlighting the conference awards was senior thrower Febe Wessels, who was named the RMAC Women's Field Athlete of the Year after one of the most impressive seasons in program history.

The All-RMAC teams are determined by performances at the RMAC Outdoor Championships, with first-, second- and third-place finishers earning First Team honors and fourth-, fifth- and sixth-place finishers receiving Second Team recognition.
Wessels capped a remarkable senior season by earning the conference's top field honor. The Pretoria, South Africa native claimed the RMAC shot put title and finished runner-up in the discus before earning a national runner-up finish in the shot put at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships. Earlier in the year, Wessels captured the NCAA Division II Indoor National Championship in the shot put, becoming the latest national champion in CSU Pueblo's storied throws tradition.

The ThunderWolf women produced 10 All-RMAC selections, led by a distance group that continued to rank among the nation's best. Helen Braybrook earned First Team honors in the 1,500 meters after concluding one of the most decorated careers in program history. The England native closed her career with a national runner-up finish in the 1,500 meters and leaves Pueblo as a four-time national champion, 13-time All-American and multiple-time NCAA Division II record holder.

Jadyn Herron joined Braybrook on the First Team after another outstanding season in the 1,500 meters. Herron earned All-America honors with a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Championships and served as one of the cornerstones of CSU Pueblo's nationally renowned distance program throughout her career.

Charlotte Young continued her breakout freshman season by earning First Team All-RMAC recognition in the 800 meters. Young helped CSU Pueblo capture the NCAA Division II Indoor National Championship in the distance medley relay and later qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in one of Division II's deepest events.

The ThunderWolves also received strong performances from Gabrielle Dunich and Leyah Martinez, who each collected Second Team honors. Dunich earned recognition in the 400 meters after a season that saw her contribute valuable points throughout the championship portion of the schedule, while Martinez secured Second Team accolades in the 400-meter hurdles.

CSU Pueblo's tradition of excellence in the multi-events continued with Mary Scoggins and Kyla Ruzich earning All-RMAC honors in the heptathlon. Scoggins garnered First Team recognition, while Ruzich added a Second Team selection, giving the ThunderWolves two of the conference's top performers in the event.

In the throws, Ketura Templeman earned First Team All-RMAC honors in the javelin after winning the RMAC championship in the event. Templeman qualified for the NCAA Championships for the second consecutive season and continues to establish herself as one of the top young javelin throwers in Division II. Wessels added First Team honors in the discus and Second Team recognition in the javelin to complete her decorated season.

On the men's side, CSU Pueblo collected 12 individual All-RMAC honors and was highlighted by Xavier Freeman being named the Dr. Randy Rhine Field Performer of the Meet following his dominant performance at the RMAC Championships.

Freeman earned First Team All-RMAC honors in both the shot put and discus after sweeping conference titles in the two events. He later delivered one of the most dramatic moments of the NCAA Championships, moving into second place nationally on his final attempt to earn national runner-up honors and All-America recognition in the shot put.

Caleb McLeod headlined the ThunderWolves' distance contingent after earning First Team All-RMAC honors in the 1,500 meters. The Scottish sophomore went on to capture the NCAA Division II National Championship in the event, continuing CSU Pueblo's recent dominance after former ThunderWolf Reece Sharman-Newell won the same title in 2025.

Tim Anstett earned Second Team recognition in the 800 meters after another strong season that culminated with a trip to the NCAA Championships. Anstett remains one of the nation's premier middle-distance runners and added another conference honor to his growing résumé.

Jon Sweepe secured Second Team All-RMAC honors in the 1,500 meters and later qualified for his second consecutive NCAA Outdoor Championships appearance. Sweepe also competed in the 5,000 meters at the national meet, continuing his emergence as one of the top distance runners in the conference.

Kameron Eustace and Caden Schweer both earned Second Team honors in the 10,000 meters, providing valuable depth for a ThunderWolf distance squad that consistently competed among the RMAC's best.

The ThunderWolves' throws group once again established itself among the nation's elite. Felipe Castro earned First Team All-RMAC honors in the shot put, while Ryan Lane collected a pair of Second Team selections in both the shot put and hammer throw. Lukas Moran added First Team recognition in the hammer throw after another strong championship performance.

CSU Pueblo's success in the javelin was equally impressive. Maverik Mertens and Ian Thomas both earned First Team All-RMAC honors, while Luke Mummert secured Second Team recognition. The trio helped make the ThunderWolves one of the conference's strongest programs in the event and contributed significantly to the team's success throughout the season.

In total, CSU Pueblo athletes combined for 22 individual All-RMAC honors during the outdoor season, with the women accounting for 10 selections and the men adding 12. The ThunderWolves earned recognition across distance, middle distance, hurdles, multi-events and throws, showcasing the depth that has become synonymous with the program under head coach Matt Morris.

The All-RMAC recognition comes on the heels of a season that saw nine ThunderWolves qualify for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Emporia, Kansas. The group was highlighted by national champion Caleb McLeod in the 1,500 meters, national runner-up finishes from Wessels in the shot put, Braybrook in the 1,500 meters and Freeman in the shot put, along with Herron's All-America finish in the 1,500 meters. Combined with Wessels' indoor national championship and numerous conference champions throughout the season, the ThunderWolves once again demonstrated why CSU Pueblo remains one of the premier track and field programs in NCAA Division II.
