ALAMOSA, Colo. - Colorado State University Pueblo track and field made the trip to the San Luis Valley on Saturday, competing at the Grizzly Open hosted by Adams State at the High Altitude Training Center in Alamosa, Colorado. Battling altitude and strong regional competition, the Pack turned in several standout performances on both the men's and women's sides.
The ThunderWolves men were particularly sharp on the track, sweeping the top three spots in the 400 meters. Sayer Vargues led the way with a winning time of 51.31, followed closely by Kanyon Cobbs at 51.41 and Neveh Jones at 51.78, showcasing CSU Pueblo's depth and speed in the quarter mile. In distance action, the Pack dominated the men's 5,000 meters as Kameron Eustace claimed first place in 15:22.00, with Caden Schweer right behind in second at 15:24.99. Aaron Roberds added a solid seventh-place finish.
CSU Pueblo also picked up a runner-up finish in the men's 4x400 meter relay, crossing the line in 3:27.85 behind host Adams State. In the field events, Xavier Freeman highlighted the throws with a second-place mark of 17.27 meters in the shot put, while Ryan Lane, Felipe Castro, and Lukas Moran all finished inside the top five to give the Pack a strong showing in the event.
On the women's side, the ThunderWolves earned multiple event victories and podium finishes. Kyla Ruzich and Mary Scoggins shared first place in the high jump, each clearing 1.50 meters. In the shot put, Febe Wessels took the top spot with a winning throw of 14.92 meters, continuing a strong start to the indoor season for CSU Pueblo's throws group.
The Pack also shined in relay action, winning the women's 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:58.28. On the track, Leyah Martinez, Gabrielle Dunich, and Janise Everett all placed inside the top four of the 400 meters, while Lily Smithson earned a third-place finish in the women's 5,000 meters with a time of 18:54.87.
With several event wins and strong depth across disciplines, CSU Pueblo delivered a productive showing at the Grizzly Open and will look to build on that momentum as the indoor season continues.
