Thomas Staines named to 2026 USTFCCCA NCAA DII Hall of Fame

NEW ORLEANS, La.  - Colorado State University Pueblo track and field legend Thomas Staines added another historic honor to his résumé Wednesday afternoon, as he was officially named to the 2026 USTFCCCA NCAA Division II Athlete Hall of Fame.

Already enshrined as a CSU Pueblo Hall of Famer, Staines authored one of the most dominant middle-distance careers in NCAA Division II history during his time with the ThunderWolves, leaving a legacy that still defines excellence at the national level.

A five-time NCAA national champion, Staines established himself as the standard in the 800 meters across multiple seasons and championship settings. He owns the NCAA Division II all-conditions best in the 800 meters at 1:46.27 and posted a record-legal 600-meter best of 1:15.31, marks that remain benchmarks in collegiate middle-distance running. On the championship stage, Staines shattered both the indoor and outdoor NCAA championship meet records in the 800, consistently delivering his best performances when the stakes were highest.

His dominance extended far beyond individual titles. Staines was a three-time USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Year, an honor reserved for the most impactful and accomplished athletes in the country. Over the course of his career, he earned eight All-America honors and captured more than ten Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference titles, excelling in one of the most competitive conferences in Division II.

Staines' success was defined not only by his times, but by his consistency, competitive edge, and ability to elevate himself on the sport's biggest stages. His achievements helped raise the national profile of CSU Pueblo track and field and set a new standard for middle-distance excellence within the program.

With his induction into the 2026 USTFCCCA NCAA Division II Athlete Hall of Fame, Thomas Staines' place among the greatest athletes in Division II history is now permanently cemented, honoring a career that reshaped expectations and left an enduring impact on collegiate track and field.
