COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Colorado State University Pueblo thrower Febe Wessels was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week following her standout performance at the MLK Invitational, hosted by the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.
Wessels delivered a breakthrough showing in the shot put, placing fifth overall with a mark of 14.42 meters in a field that featured numerous Division I competitors. Her throw stood as the top mark among all Division II athletes in the event and also met the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying standard, marking a significant milestone early in the indoor season.
Competing against elite national competition, Wessels demonstrated consistency and composure throughout the event, cementing herself as one of the premier throwers in the RMAC and establishing CSU Pueblo as a force in the throwing events.
Wessels is no stranger to national success, as she earned Indoor All-American honors last season after finishing fifth in the shot put at the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships, further underscoring her status as one of the top throwers in the conference and the nation.
The weekly honor is the first RMAC Field Athlete of the Week award of the season for Wessels and continues a strong start to the indoor campaign for the ThunderWolves. Her performance at the MLK Invitational provides momentum as the Pack prepare for the upcoming stretch of the indoor schedule.
The ThunderWolves will be back in action once again this weekend in Albuquerque, New Mexico, as CSU Pueblo continues its indoor season against strong regional and national competition.
