BOULDER, Colo. – The Colorado State University Pueblo Track and Field teams opened competition on Friday at the Potts Invitational, hosted inside the Ford Indoor Facility on the campus of the University of Colorado, as the ThunderWolves took part in a full slate of throwing events on Day One of the two-day meet.
The Pack was led by a strong showing from the women's throwing group, highlighted by senior Febe Wessels, who delivered one of the top performances of the day. Wessels finished second overall in the women's shot put with a mark of 15.41 meters (50-6¾), competing against a deep field that featured Division I and RMAC athletes. She also competed in the women's weight throw, where she recorded a mark of 14.69 meters (48-2¼), adding another quality early-season result.
Keturah Templeman also represented the ThunderWolves in the women's shot put, posting a best throw of 10.54 meters (34-7). Templeman gained valuable experience competing in a large field as the Pack continued to build depth in the throwing events.
On the men's side, CSU Pueblo saw multiple athletes compete across both throwing disciplines. Xavier Freeman turned in a productive opening day, recording a mark of 16.63 meters (54-6¾) in the men's shot put before following it up with a throw of 16.86 meters (55-3¾) in the weight throw. Freeman advanced through the preliminary rounds in both events while competing against high-level regional competition.
Senior Felipe Castro Engel competed in both events as well, posting a throw of 15.02 meters (49-3½) in the shot put to finish 12th overall. Castro later returned in the men's weight throw, where he recorded a mark of 16.58 meters (54-4¾), again earning a 12th-place finish and showing consistency across his series.
Freshman Ryan Lane rounded out the ThunderWolves' Day One competitors, taking part in both the men's shot put and weight throw. Lane posted a mark of 15.33 meters (50-3½) in the shot put and followed with a throw of 13.90 meters (45-7¼) in the weight throw, gaining valuable experience competing in one of the region's most competitive indoor meets.
Overall, the ThunderWolves turned in a solid opening day in Boulder, using the Potts Invitational as an important early-season measuring stick against strong Division I and RMAC competition.
CSU Pueblo will return to action on Saturday for Day Two of the Potts Invitational, where the meet will conclude with additional field events and a full slate of track events.
