PUEBLO, Colo. - The Colorado State University Pueblo women's basketball team put together a complete response Saturday afternoon at Massari Arena, bouncing back from Thursday's road setback with a convincing 66–49 victory over a gritty Colorado Christian University squad.
Colorado Christian struck first with an early 5–0 run, but the Pack quickly settled in on the defensive end and began to dictate the tempo. CSU Pueblo closed the opening quarter strong to take a 15–14 lead after 10 minutes, setting the stage for a decisive shift in momentum.
The Pack took full control in the second quarter, overwhelming CCU with ball pressure, transition offense, and consistent paint touches. CSU Pueblo outscored the Cougars 24–7 in the period, holding Colorado Christian to just 21.4 percent shooting while forcing turnovers that led to easy scoring opportunities. The Pack entered halftime with a commanding 39–21 advantage.
CSU Pueblo continued to impose its will coming out of the break, pushing the lead to as many as 22 points in the third quarter. While Colorado Christian showed brief spurts of momentum, the Pack's defensive discipline and interior scoring kept the Cougars at arm's length. CSU Pueblo carried a 56–40 lead into the fourth after controlling the game for more than 33 minutes.
Colorado Christian attempted to cut into the deficit early in the final quarter, but CSU Pueblo responded with poise. The Pack leaned on their depth, defensive rebounding, and transition play to close out the contest, securing the 66–49 bounce-back win.
CSU Pueblo showcased its balance across the stat sheet, shooting 42 percent from the field and finishing with a 30–24 edge in points in the paint. The Pack also dominated in transition, outscoring CCU 20–9 on the fast break, while holding the Cougars to just 28 percent shooting overall and 21 percent from three-point range.
Four Pack players reached double figures, led by Genesis Sweetwine, who finished with 13 points to go along with six assists and four steals. The ThunderWolves' leading scorer per game Seneya Martinez (10.5 PPG) and Jada Bobb each added 10 points, with Bobb also pulling down eight rebounds off the bench. Ruby Sweeney-Spitzeck chipped in nine points and provided a steady presence on both ends of the floor.
CSU Pueblo's depth proved to be a difference-maker, as the Pack bench outscored CCU's reserves 28–13. Defensively, CSU Pueblo forced 23 turnovers and limited second-chance opportunities, never allowing Colorado Christian to find a sustained rhythm.
With the win, CSU Pueblo improved to 8–6 overall and 4–2 in RMAC play, sitting fourth in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference standings.
The Pack return to action next Thursday, hosting Colorado School of Mines at Massari Arena for UCHealth Night and County/West Night, as CSU Pueblo looks to continue building momentum in conference play.
