LUBBOCK, Texas — Colorado State University Pueblo volleyball earned a statement victory on Thursday night, taking down South Central Regional foe Lubbock Christian in straight sets (25-20, 27-25, 25-20) at the Rip Griffin Center. The win pushes the ThunderWolves to 2-3 on the year while handing the Lady Chaps their third loss of the season.
The Pack delivered a balanced attack, hitting .252 as a team while holding Lubbock Christian to a .189 mark. Junior outside hitter Caelyn Gunn paced the offense with a match-high 16 kills, adding two service aces, three blocks, and 15 digs for an all-around performance worth 19.5 points. Taylor Cary joined her in double figures with 10 kills, while Golden Finch added seven kills and four blocks at the net.
Setter Elena Stankovic directed the offense with 35 assists and four kills of her own while also contributing seven digs. Defensively, Megan Mattingly anchored the back row with 14 digs, and Chinaru Inoue chipped in 10 digs to keep rallies alive.
The ThunderWolves showed composure in a pivotal second set, fending off a strong Lady Chaps push to secure a 27-25 win before closing the match in the third. Overall, CSU Pueblo tallied 14 team blocks and seven service aces, using a disruptive defense and timely serving to keep momentum on their side.
For Lubbock Christian, Lily Bickley and Camryn Blair each recorded 12 and 11 kills respectively, but the Pack's steady pressure proved too much down the stretch.
CSU Pueblo will look to build on the momentum as they continue the MCM Elegante Chap Classic, facing Eastern New Mexicoat 11:00 AM MST tomorrow in Lubbock.
