Farrell Named RMAC Pitcher of the Year, Six Pack Players Earn All-RMAC Honors

Farrell Becomes Second Straight Pack Pitcher to Earn RMAC Pitcher of the Year Accolade

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado State University Pueblo senior Travis Farrell (Las Vegas, Nev./Otero JC) was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year and highlights a group of six All-RMAC selections from the ThunderWolves baseball team.

Farrell, who is the second straight Pack player to earn RMAC Pitcher of the Year honors, is one of four First-Team All-RMAC selection as he is joined on the first team by fifth-year senior first baseman Christian Castaneda (El Paso, Texas/Otero JC), senior third baseman Kysen Howard (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley Northwest) and redshirt junior pitcher Jacob Petersheim (Broadway, Va./Broadway), while senior outfielder Elijah Borjas (Denver, Colo./Lakewood) and senior outfielder Wyatt Reginato (Cottonwood, Calif./Folsom Lake) were Second-Team All-RMAC selections. In addition, redshirt freshman Tyler Clementz (Gilbert, Ariz./Basha) was named the Co-Freshman Pitcher of the Year. Borjas was named a repeat Second-Team All-RMAC selection, while Castaneda is a two-time first team selection after earning the honor in 2023.

With his Pitcher of the Year accolade, Farrell becomes the second straight and seventh Pack player in school history to earn RMAC Pitcher of the Year honors. In addition to Farrell, Tyler Curtis was honored in 2023, while Mike Fabrizio was honored in 2014, Shawn Martinez was honored in 2004, while Don Clement earned the honor in 2003 and Judd Songster was honored in 2001. Darrell O'Brien was recognized in 1996 and current Pack head coach Bobby Applegate was honored in 1994.

Farrell earns his RMAC Pitcher of the Year honor after finishing the regular season leading the league in wins (8), earned run average (4.78) and innings pitched (69.2) and was third in strikeouts (60), fourth in walks allowed per nine innings (2.71), second in opponents batting average (.281), tied for sixth in starts (12) and ninth in walks (21).

Entering the Pack's RMAC Tournament opener on Wednesday against fourth-seeded MSU Denver, Farrell is 8-2 on the season with a 4.78 ERA and in 69.2 innings of work, he tossed one complete game, had six quality starts (less than two runs allowed in at least six innings of work), allowed 78 hits, 43 runs, 37 earned runs, while striking out 60 and walking 21 in 12 appearances. He pitched at least six innings in nine of his 12 starts and recorded five or more strikeouts in eight of his 12 starts. In RMAC play, Farrell was 4-2 with a 6.86 ERA. In 39.1 innings of work, he struck out 31 and walked 14. He had at least five strikeouts in three of his RMAC starts and tossed six or more innings in five of his seven league starts.

Clementz shares his RMAC Freshman Pitcher of the Year with Adams State's Joseph Marek as he was 3-2 with an 8.29 ERA in 13 appearances and four starts. He recorded one save and in 38 innings of work, he struck out 34 and walked 12. In RMAC play, he was 3-1 with an 8.60 ERA and in eight appearances and four starts, he tossed 30.1 innings, recorded a save and tallied 18 strikeouts while walking 10.

Castaneda earns his First-Team All-RMAC honor at first base after leading the Pack in batting average (.448), runs scored (60), hits (78), doubles (24), home runs (10), total bases (130), RBI (64), walks (35), on-base percentage (.553) and is second in OPS (1.312) and slugging percentage (.759). In addition, he ranks in the Top 10 in the league in batting average, walks, doubles, hits, on-base percentage, runs, RBI, total bases and slugging percentage. He enters the RMAC Tournament having reached base in all 50 games this season and has a current 58-game reached base streak dating to last season and is second in multi-hit games (20) and multiple RBI games (15). In 13 RMAC games, he hit .459 with 51 hits, 39 runs, 16 doubles, five home runs, 38 RBI, 25 walks and a .739 slugging percentage and was 12-for-12 on stolen bases.

Howard earns his First-Team All-RMAC honor at third base after hitting .446 with 41 hits, 32 runs scored, 12 doubles, two triples, eight home runs, 42 RBI and an .880 slugging percentage and a 1.427 OPS despite missing 20 games this season due to injury. He tallied 11 multi-hit and 12 multiple RBI games on the season and in RMAC games, he hit .500 with 20 hits, 15 runs scored, four doubles, one triple, four home runs, 22 RBI, a .950 slugging percentage and a 1.513 OPS.

Petersheim earns a spot on the All-RMAC First-Team as a starting pitcher after posting a 5-3 overall record and a 6.49 ERA in 15 appearances and seven starts. In 52.2 innings of work, he allowed 69 hits, 50 runs, 38 earned runs, 50 strikeouts and 14 walks and is second in the RMAC in walks allowed per nine innings (2.39) and strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.57). In RMAC play, he was 4-2 with a 5.66 ERA in nine appearances and six starts and tossed 41.1 innings with 49 hits, 36 runs, 26 earned runs, 38 strikeouts and 13 walks.

Farrell, Castaneda, Howard and Petersheim are joined on the All-RMAC First-Team by Regis catcher Adam Paniagua, MSU Denver second baseman Andrew Graham, Regis shortstop Clay Conn, MSU Denver infielder Erubiel Ortiz, Colorado Mesa outfielder Cameron Cartwright, Colorado Mesa outfielder Kolby Felix, Colorado Mesa outfielder Paul Schoenfeld, MSU Denver outfielder Cam Yuran, MSU Denver designed hitter Jesse Velders, Colorado Mesa starting pitcher Liam Hohenstein, Colorado starting pitcher Gauge Lockhart and Regis relief pitcher Noah McCandless.

Along with Farrell and Clementz, the other RMAC individual award winners was Paniagua earning RMAC Player of the Year, while Adams State outfielder Josiah Hall was the Freshman Player of the Year and Adams State's Joseph Marek was the Co-Freshman Pitcher of the Year and Colorado Mesa's Chris Hanks was named the RMAC Coach of the Year after leading the Mavericks to their 13th consecutive RMAC regular season title and a 36-11 overall record and a 26-4 mark in RMAC play.

Borjas repeats as a Second-Team All-RMAC selection in the outfield after hitting .380 with 68 hits, 57 runs scored, 12 doubles, four triples, nine home runs, 60 RBI and has had .642 slugging percentage and was 10-for-12 on stolen bases with a 1.082 OPS. He had 18 multi-hit games and led the team with multiple RBI games with 17. In RMAC play, he hit .426 with 52 hits, 42 runs scored, 10 doubles, two triples, seven home runs, 43 RBI, was 8-for-8 on stolen bases and had a .713 slugging percentage and a .482 on-base percentage.

Reginato earns his Second-Team All-RMAC honor in the outfield after hitting .413 with 69 hits, 52 runs scored, 12 doubles, three triples, two home runs and 40 RBI. He also had 29 walks, was 15-for-17 on stolen bases and led the team in multi-hit games with 25 and had 10 multiple RBI games. In RMAC play, he hit .421 with 45 hits, 37 runs scored, six doubles, two triples, two home runs, 24 RBI, while drawing 21 walks and going 10-for-11 on stolen bases.

Borjas, Reginato and Hall were joined on the All-RMAC Second Team by Colorado Mess catcher Declan Wiesner, MSU Denver first baseman Easton Amundson, Colorado Christian second baseman Mason Hagel-Pitt, Colorado Christian shortstop Gavin Acosta, Colorado Mesa shortstop Kennedy Hara, Mines shortstop Canon Humphreys, MSU Denver shortstop Gavin Schmeh, UCCS third baseman Bryce Peterson, Adams State infielder Seth Raker, Regis outfielder Garrett Rede, Colorado Christian designated hitter William Brassil, Adams State designated hitter Phil Carter, Colorado Mesa starting pitcher Sage Ferguson, Regis starting pitcher Nick Jacobs, MSU Denver starting pitcher Nolan Livsey, UCCS starting pitcher Ryder Mancuso, Colorado Mesa starting pitcher Ethan Voss and Colorado Mesa relief pitcher JJ Almeda.

CSU Pueblo, who is seeded third in the RMAC Tournament, will open tournament play on Wednesday, May 7 with an 11 a.m. game at The Diamond in Grand Junction, Colo., against No. 4 seeded MSU Denver. The double-elimination tournament runs through Saturday, May 10 and the winner of the tournament receives the league's automatic bid  to the NCAA Division II Baseball South Central Regional Tournament.
