PUEBLO, Colo. - The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's and women's track and field teams made an impressive showing on day one of the 2025 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships, held at their home venue, the CSU-Pueblo ThunderBowl. The ThunderWolves were led by three standout performances that secured spots in the finals of their respective events.
On the women's side, senior Margot Thomas-Gatel earned a return trip to the finals in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. The French distance runner clocked in at 10:43.74 to take sixth place in the prelims, marking her second consecutive season advancing to the national stage in this event.
Joining her in the finals spotlight are two members of the CSU Pueblo men's distance squad. All-American Reece Sharman-Newell delivered a commanding performance in the men's 1,500 meters, leading all competitors with a blistering time of 3:51.11—well under the four-minute mile mark. Sharman-Newell, who finished second nationally in the mile during the indoor season, looks poised for another podium finish.
Also advancing in the 1,500 meters was young standout Jon Sweepe. The Arizona native punched his ticket with a solid ninth-place qualifying time of 3:54.18, rounding out a strong showing for the ThunderWolves in the event.
While the day brought advancement for some, it also marked the end of the road for others. Camille Renou concluded a remarkable season with a 13th-place finish in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase, clocking in at 11:01.51. On the men's side, Kaleb Beloy—a consistent force throughout the season—wrapped up his year with a time of 9:54.75 in the steeplechase.
The ThunderWolves will return to action tomorrow as the National Championships continue with a full slate of events. CSU Pueblo looks to build on its strong start and capitalize on home-track advantage heading into day two.
