DENVER, Colo. – Colorado State University Pueblo women's lacrosse continued its five-game road trip in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play here Sunday with a hard-fought 20-7 setback to 16th-ranked Regis at the Regis Turf Fields.
With the setback, the Pack fell to 1-10 overall and 1-6 in the RMAC, while Regis improved to 8-4 overall and 6-1 in the RMAC. The Pack will conclude its five-game road trip with a 1 p.m. game next Saturday, April 12 in Durango, Colo., against Fort Lewis College.
The seven goals scored by the Pack in Sunday's game marked the most goals scored by the Pack against the Rangers since tallying nine goals in a 16-9 home loss on March 24, 2019. The Pack fell 18-3 at home earlier this season to the Rangers.
One of the bright spots in Sunday's game was the play of sophomore goalie
Breonna Mason (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy), as she faced 51 shots and recorded a career-high and single-game school record 23 saves. The 23 saves bettered the school record of 22 saves set by Ane Marie Horton at Florida Tech on March 30, 2018.
In addition to her 23 saves, Mason recorded four ground balls and had three caused turnovers in her 60 minutes in the cage.
Along with Mason, the Pack got two goals each in the game from sophomore attacker
Clara Drinkwater (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) and sophomore midfielder
Sophia Rinn (Eagle, Colo./Eagle Valley). In addition to Drinkwater and Rinn, freshman attacker
Moira Turpen (Newberg, Ore./Newberg), sophomore attacker
Leeah Carmine (Boise, Idaho/Bishop Kelly), and freshman midfielder
Sydney Gunnels (Dallas, Texas/Coppell) each tallied a goal.
The game was close early on as Regis jumped out to a 2-0 lead just four minutes into the game before the Pack came back and used goals by Rinn and Gunnels to tie the game at 2-all with 5:10 left in the opening period. Rinn's goal was assisted by Gunnels, while Gunnels' goal was unassisted.
Regis, though, would score the final goals of the first period to take a 5-2 lead after the opening 15 minutes of play.
The Pack pulled within 5-3 following a goal by Drinkwater that was assisted by freshman attacker
Emily Doane (Lake Forest, Calif./El Toro) just a little over three minutes into the second period.
Regis would answer back as they scored four unanswered goals to close the second period to take a 9-3 lead at the half.
Megan Bunker scored an unassisted goal just 104 seconds into the third period to give Regis a 10-3 advantage. About three-plus minutes later, Turpen scored on a free position shot to cut the Rangers' lead to 10-4. The goal by Turpen was her team-leading 25th of the season.
Following Turpen's goal, the Rangers scored four straight goals to push out to a 14-4 lead with 6:36 left in the third period. Rinn would score her second goal of the game with 4:10 left in the period to pull within 14-5.
In the final 23 seconds of the third period, the Pack used goals by Drinkwater off an assist by Gunnels and an unassisted goal by Carmine to cut Regis' lead to 14-7 heading into the final period.
Regis would score six unanswered goals in the fourth period to cap the scoring and set the final margin.
Becky Goetsch paced the Rangers with five goals and added six assists for 11 points. In addition to Goetsch, Lexie Springman, and Shea Murphy each scored three goals, while Justine Spahr and Case Carlson tallied two goals.
The Pack were outshot, 51-16 in the game, including 43-13 in shots on goal. Regis held a 26-9 edge in shots in the first half and a 25-7 edge in shots in the second half. The Pack was not able to get a shot off in the fourth period.

Reese Wasmund (Portland, Ore./West Linn) had three draws, while Turpen and Doane each had two. Spahr and Bunker combined to 11 draws for the Rangers.
Regis was 17-for-19 on clears, while the Pack was 12-for-22 on their clear attempts.
