ThunderWolves Make Major Moves on Day 2 at RMAC Championships; Higgins Wins Another RMAC Title

GOLDEN, Colo. – The Colorado State University Pueblo ThunderWolves Track and Field teams put together a strong Day 2 performance at the 2025 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted at Colorado School of Mines.

The women's team made the biggest splash of the day, soaring from eighth place all the way up to third in the standings. After picking up just 3 points on Day 1, the ThunderWolves surged to 38 points by the end of Day 2. Meanwhile, the men's team held steady in fourth place, improving their total from 19 points to 31 points after a solid showing across multiple events.

On the team leaderboards, Colorado School of Mines leads the men's competition with 99 points, while University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) tops the women's side with 96.5 points.

Day 2 Highlights:

  • Women's Heptathlon Finals:

  • Men's Discus Throw:

    • Xavier Freeman came up big with a runner-up finish, throwing 50.31 meters and picking up 8 points.

  • Women's Shot Put:

    • All-Americans Katherine Higgins and Febe Wessels dominated, going 1-2.

    • Higgins won the event, breaking the facility record with a personal best throw of 16.22 meters.

    • Wessels claimed second with a personal best of 15.48 meters.

    • Both are expected to compete at the National Championships later this season in Pueblo.

  • Men's 200m Dash Prelims:

    • All-American sprinter Tyrell Smith cruised into the finals with a second-place time of 21.25 seconds.

  • Women's 800m Prelims:

    • Leah Keisler, continuing her standout freshman campaign, qualified for the finals by finishing second in 2:15.10.

  • Men's 800m Prelims:

    • A ThunderWolf takeover as CSU Pueblo runners swept the top four spots, all advancing to the finals:

  • Women's 3000m Steeplechase:

    • Margot Thomas-Gatel led the way with a 3rd-place finish, grabbing 6 points and setting a personal best of 10:55.09.

The ThunderWolves return to action tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. for the third and final day of the RMAC Championships, looking to finish strong and climb even higher in the team standings.
