Track & Field Shines at Bryan Clay Invitational in California

AZUSA, Calif. - The Colorado State University Pueblo Track and Field team made their presence felt this week as they traveled west to Azusa, California, to compete in the prestigious Bryan Clay Invitational, held April 16–18 on the campus of Azusa Pacific University. The ThunderWolves sent a primarily mid-distance and distance-heavy squad, and several standout performances highlighted the three-day event.

Wednesday Highlights – Steeplechase Success

The action kicked off Wednesday evening in the men's 3,000m steeplechase, with Kaleb Beloy representing the Pack. Beloy clocked in at 8:58.51, landing in 41st place out of over 100 competitors. On the women's side, French standout Margot Thomas-Gatel led the trio of ThunderWolves in the steeplechase with a strong 22nd place finish in 10:28.37. Fellow French teammate Camille Renou followed with a 50th-place finish in 10:42.10.

Thursday Momentum – Middle Distance Marks

The middle distance crew took over Thursday, starting with the women's 800m. All-American and national champion Helen Braybrook stole the spotlight, placing 4th overall in a field of 127 with a blazing time of 2:04.11. Jadyn Heron also competed, finishing in 57th at 2:08.82.

The men's 800m was equally impressive. In the Elite heat, Reece Sharman-Newell ran a stellar 1:46.50 to finish 3rd overall. Emil Meggle followed in 15th with a time of 1:49.62. In the invite heat, Tim Anstett led the ThunderWolves with a time of 1:49.12, placing 26th, followed by Caleb McLeod (1:50.33, 51st) and Kaleb Tipton (1:52.22, 111th).

Friday Finale – Sprints, Relays, and More Distance

Friday saw a mix of sprints and relays in the daytime session. All-American Tyrell Smith showed his speed in the men's 100m dash, taking 14th in a competitive field of 60 with a time of 10.70. Smith then turned in a 9th-place finish in the 200m at 21.36 against 50 competitors.

The men's 4x400m relay also delivered a solid performance. The squad of Anstett, Meggle, McLeod, and Tipton finished 8th overall in 3:15.29.

Back on the track in the Elite 800m on Friday, Anstett and Smith both ran strong, each clocking 1:49.22.

In the evening session, the distance events returned, with  Beloy closing out the meet for CSU Pueblo in the men's 1500m. He recorded a time of 3:53.74, finishing 81st.

More distance events are concluding this evening and will be posted as they conclude.

Overall Recap

The ThunderWolves showcased depth and talent across multiple events, highlighted by top-five finishes from Braybrook and Sharman-Newell, strong steeplechase performances, and a promising 4x400m relay. With the postseason looming, CSU Pueblo appears to be rounding into form at just the right time.
