Baseball Lets Big Lead Slip Away In Second Game Of Saturday's Doubleheader

LAS VEGAS, N.M. - The Colorado State University Pueblo ThunderWolves let a six-run lead slip away Saturday afternoon, falling 8-7 to New Mexico Highlands in Game 2 of a doubleheader in Las Vegas, New Mexico.

With the loss, the ThunderWolves drop to 23-15 overall and 12-7 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) play, while the Cowboys improve to 10-26 overall and 2-17 in RMAC action.

CSU-Pueblo came out swinging, grabbing an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a Wyatt Reginato RBI double that scored Noah Williams. After Highlands tied it in the bottom half, Williams came through again with a two-run single in the second inning. The ThunderWolves extended their lead in the fourth, as Rob Mansour drove in a run and Williams followed with a three-run blast to left field, putting CSU-Pueblo up 7-1 in the seven-inning contest.

However, the Cowboys mounted a furious comeback. Highlands put up five runs in the fifth inning to close the gap to 7-6, then tied the game in the sixth on a clutch two-out home run by Bryant O'Neal. In the bottom of the seventh, Richie Amavizica sealed the walk-off win with a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Roman Robles.

Anthony Reyes earned the win for Highlands, improving to 2-3 on the season, while CSU-Pueblo's Jack Novak took the loss, falling to 2-1.

Despite outscoring the Cowboys 30-18 over the series, the ThunderWolves now lead the series just 2-1. They'll look to bounce back and secure the series win on Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m.
