Baseball Clinches Series Win Over New Mexico Highlands with 6-2 Victory in Finale

LAS VEGAS, N.M.  -  The Colorado State University Pueblo Baseball squad capped off a strong weekend with a 6-2 win over New Mexico Highlands in Game 4 of the series on Sunday, securing a 3-1 series victory.

With the win, the ThunderWolves improve to 23-15 overall and 13-7 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) play, holding steady in fourth place in the conference standings.

Right-hander Tyler Clements was solid on the mound, tossing six innings of two-run ball while scattering six hits and striking out four to earn the win. The loss went to Highlands' Andrew Rodriguez, who gave up six earned runs over five innings and dropped to 1-6 on the year.

CSU Pueblo set the tone early and never looked back. Christian Castaneda got the offense rolling with an RBI double in the top of the first to score Devean Alvarez. In the third, Alvarez returned the favor with an RBI single to center to bring in Noah Williams, and Wyatt Reginato followed with a run-scoring double to deep center, stretching the lead to 3-0.

Highlands scratched across a run in the fourth, but Castaneda answered in a big way with a towering three-run homer to left field in the fifth inning—his second extra-base hit of the day—giving the ThunderWolves a commanding 6-1 lead.

The Cowboys added a run in the seventh, but the Pack bullpen shut the door. Relievers Jake Olguin-Pacheco, and Alex Oliver combined for three scoreless innings to lock up the win.

New Mexico Highlands falls to 10-26 overall and 2-18 in RMAC play.

CSU Pueblo now returns home for a four-game holiday weekend series against MSU Denver beginning Thursday at Rawlings Field. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. as the ThunderWolves look to keep their momentum rolling. The Pack will get Easter Sunday off.
