LAS VEGAS, N.M. - The Colorado State University Pueblo Baseball team opened their weekend series with authority, cruising to a 16-4 run-rule win in seven innings over New Mexico Highlands Friday afternoon in Las Vegas, N.M.
The dominant performance improves the ThunderWolves to 21-14 overall and 11-6 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) play, while the Cowboys fall to 9-24 and 1-16 in conference action.
Right-hander Jacob Petersheim earned the win for CSU Pueblo, tossing five solid innings and allowing just five hits and one earned run, improving his record to 4-1 on the season. Offensively, the ThunderWolves wasted no time, scoring in each of the first six innings.
Wyatt Reginato paced the offense with four RBIs, including a bases-clearing double in a massive eight-run fifth inning. Elijah Borjas continued his red-hot stretch, reaching base multiple times and launching a two-run homer as part of the fifth-inning outburst. Logan Kelly followed with a solo shot of his own, while Devin Alvarez and Christian Castaneda also chipped in with RBI base knocks.
The biggest swing of the day came in the sixth, when pinch-hitter George Andrews made the most of his opportunity by launching a grand slam, putting the game firmly out of reach.
The ThunderWolves racked up 16 runs on 17 hits and have now won three straight, and eight of their last nine, as they continue to climb the RMAC standings. They'll look to keep the momentum rolling with a Saturday doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
