PUEBLO, Colo. - The Colorado State University Pueblo Baseball squad picked up a Friday Afternoon win in their Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Home Opener at Rawlings Field, defeating the Regis University Rangers 10-6.
With the win, the Pack improve to 12-11 overall and 2-3 in RMAC play, while Regis falls to 17-10 overall and 7-2 in RMAC play.
Travis Farrell pitched another gem for the ThunderWolves, improving to 5-1 on the season. Farrell went seven strong innings, allowing just five hits and runs.
Stephen Moraski took the loss for the Rangers, falling to 0-2 on the season. Moraski went just two and two thirds innings, allowing seven hits and five runs.
CSU Pueblo was able to accumulate 12 hits, which translated to 10 runs. Leading the way for the Pack on the offensive ene were
Elijah Borjas who went 4-5 with four RBI's, and
Kysen Howard who went 2-3 with three RBI's.
ABOUT THE WIN
Regis started the game off with a 1-0 lead when Ethan Wood singled in a run off Farrell in the top of the first. The Pack answered the call in the bottom of the second inning when
Brad Stone doubled in Howard to tie the game at 1-1. Borjas gave the Pack the lead when he singled in a run, putting CSU Pueblo up 2-1 after two innings.
Farrell's only mistake of the day came in the top of the third inning as the reigning RMAC Hitter of the Week and NCAA Home Run Leader Adam Paniagua hit a solo shot to tie the game at 2-2.
CSU Pueblo was able to throw the next punch in the bottom half of the third, as Howard launched a three-run homer over the left center fence to put the Pack up 5-2.
In the fifth, the Pack continued their barrage as Borjas doubled to deep left center to score two more run, breaking the game open at 7-2.
Devean Alvarez was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to knock in another run, and Noah William conclued the long inning with a sac fly to score Borjas. The Pack led 9-2 through five innings.
Regis was able to rally late, scoring four runs in the eighth inning to make the ThunderWolves sweat, cutting the lead down to 9-6. Borjas knocked in another run in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Pack an insurance run at 10-6.

Bobby Applegate called on
Jack Novak to come in the game and preserve the lead, and Novak did just that, throwing just 12 pitches to pick up the save.
