Farrell Ptiches Another Gem As ThunderWolves Win South Central Regional Opener

PUEBLO, Colo. - The Colorado State University Pueblo Baseball squad picked up their first South Central Region win of the season, defeating Lubbock Christian Univeristy 4-2 on Friday afternoon at Rawlings Field in Pueblo. 

With the win, the Pack improve to 10-7 overall, while Lubbock Christian falls to 9-8 overall. This marks the first game and first win of the season for the Pack in the South Central Region. The South Central Region composes of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and the Lone Star Conference with the top six teams advancing to the South Central Super Regional in May.

Lubbock Christian played in the South Central Super Regional Finals, eventually falling to NCAA Division II National Championship Runner-Up Angelo State University.

Travis Farrell once again pitched a gem, as the ace for the ThunderWolves improved to 4-0 on the season, pitching six strong innings, allowing just three hits and one earned run. 

Taking the loss for LCU was Ryan Markwardt, who went just two and two thirds innings, allowing four hits and three earned runs.

ABOUT THE WIN
Lubbock Christian scored the first run of the game in the third inning as Brevin McCool knocked in a run on an RBI groundoud to second. CSU Pueblo responded in the third inning as Noah Williams blasted a triple to deep right center, scoring Cody Macias easily.

The Pack took their first lead of the game, when Christian Castaneda grounded out to short, scoring a run on an RBI groundout. The Pack continued their hot third inning, as Elijah Borjas walked in a run with the bases loaded, scoring Rob Mansour. The Pack took a 3-1 lead through three innings.

The Pack were able to get Farrell some more run support in the fourth inning, as Wyatt Reginato singled down the third base line to score Williams to put the Pack up 4-1. LCU cut into the lead in the fifth inning, as Shea Bowen doubled in a run to deep left center, cutting the score to 4-2.

Head Coach Bobby Applegate came and took the ball from Farrell after the sixth inning, allowing Jacob Petersheim to and Jack Novak to continue the last three innings. Petersheim and Novak performed incredibly, allowing just one hit the rest of the game.
