Women's Basketball Drops Heartbreaker at Home to UCCS

Little Records 20th Double-Double of Season in Loss to Mountain Lions

PUEBLO, Colo. - The Colorado State University Pueblo Women's Basketball team was outscored 32-25 in the second half here as the ThunderWolves fell 63-59 to UCCS in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action at Massari Arena.
 
With the loss, the Pack fall to 15-9 overall and 10-6 in the RMAC, while UCCS improved to 13-9 overall and 9-6 in the league. The setback, which was just the third at home this season for the Pack, is now in fourth place in the league standings with four games remaining in the regular season.
 
Redshirt senior forward Alisha Little (Aurora, Colo./University of Northern Colorado) recorded her NCAA Division II-leading 20th double-double this season as she tallied 26 points and 15 rebounds while battling foul trouble. In addition to Little's 44th double-double in her last 56 games, senior guard Tosjanae Bonds (Denver, Colo./MSU Denver) added 12 points, seven rebounds and four steals in the loss.
 
With her 26 points, Little pushed her career collegiate total to 2,510 points and is now 230 points shy of Becky Hammon's all-time state of Colorado scoring record of 2,740 points.
 
UCCS win was helped by 23 turnovers from the Pack that led to 18 points, including forcing 12 of those turnovers in the first half and 11-10 edge on the offensive boards that led 10 second chance points for the Mountain Lions.
 
After leading 34-31 at the half, the Pack was held to a season-low four points in the third period as they just 2-for-13 from the field and were outrebounded 14-4 in the period. While the Pack scored just four third period points, UCCS tallied 18 points as they were 7-for-14 from the field and 2-for-6 from the 3-point line as they scored 18 points to hold a 49-38 lead heading into the final period.
 
Trailing by 11 points heading into the final period, the Pack opened the period on a 13-6 run to pull within 55-51 with 3:30 left in the game. The run began with two free throws from senior guard Landri Hudson (Aurora, Colo./University of Wyoming) and was capped by a trey and free throw by Bonds.
 
UCCS would score five of the next seven points to push its lead to 60-53 with 2:25 remaining in the game, but the Pack responded by scoring four of the next six points to cut UCCS' lead to 62-57 with 22 seconds left. Rylie Ottman would make 1-of-2 free throws with 12 seconds left to give UCCS a 63-57 lead, before Bonds capped the scoring with lay-up right before the final buzzer.
 
Amyah Moore Allen led the way offensively for UCCS with a game-high 35 points. Moore Allen scored nearly 56 percent of the Mountain Lions' points on the night.
 
The Pack jumped out to an 11-2 lead just four minutes into the game and led 17-11 when the Mountain Lions used a 6-0 run to pull within 17-15 with 1:04 left in the period, before the closed the period with two free throws by Little and a 3-pointer from senior guard Tomia Johnson (Colorado Springs, Colo./Florida Gulf Coast) right before the buzzer to give the Pack a 22-15 lead after the opening 10 minutes.
 
UCCS opened the second period on an 11-3 run to take a 26-25 lead following a basket by Moore Allen with 4:55 left in the period. UCCS' lead was shortlived as the Pack used a 3-point play from Johnson and a 3-pointer from Little to take a 31-28 lead with 3:25 left in the period.
 
After Moore Allen scored four straight points to tie the game at 31, Hudson gave the Pack a 34-31 halftime lead thanks to her 3-pointer with 37 seconds left in the half.
 
The Pack finished the game shooting 39 percent (21-for-54) from the field and was 7-for-16 (43.8 percent) from the 3-point line, while UCCS shot 39 percent from the field (22-for-57) and was 4-for-18 (22.2 percent) from the 3-point line.
 
The Pack held a 38-37 edge on the boards as along with Little's 15 boards, sophomore forward Brynae Stewart (Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek) added nine boards. Masion White led UCCS with six rebounds.
 
UCCS had 16 turnovers in the game and had 16 steals in the win.
 
The Pack had 13 assists with Johnson collecting a career-high nine assists in the game. UCCS finished six assists on 22 made baskets.
 
UCCS also held a 23-14 edge at the free throw line as they were 15-for-23 (65 percent) at the line, while the Pack was10-for-14 (71 percent) from the charity stripe.
 
The Pack will look to begin a new win streak next Thursday, Feb. 20 as they travel to Durango, Colo., for a 5:30 p.m. RMAC match-up against Fort Lewis (6-17 overall, 3-12 RMAC).
