Smith Earns Third RMAC Special Teams Player of the Week Accolade

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado State University Pueblo junior kicker Jackson Smith (Centennial, Colo./Santa Barbara City College) earned his third Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week accolade on Monday afternoon from the league office.

Smith has now won the honor twice in the last three weeks as he was also honored after the Black Hills State game on Oct. 20 and was also recognized on Oct. 6. In addition, it is the fifth time this season that the Pack has had a Player of the Week honoree from the league as junior linebacker Bryson Torrie (Denver, Colo./Vista Peak) earned Defensive Player of the Week honors on Oct. 20 and Sept. 29, while senior receiver Reece Robinson (Los Angeles, Calif./Antelope Valley) was named the Special Teams Player of the Week on Sept. 29 and junior safety Kahden Rullo (Denver, Colo./Grandview) was named the Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 1.

Smith earns this week's Special Teams Player of the Week honor after drilling a 32-yard walk-off field goal to lift the then seventh-ranked ThunderWolves to a 24-21 come-from-behind win at then sixth-ranked Western Colorado this past Saturday. In the win over the Mountaineers, Smith's game-winning field goal as time expired helped the Pack rally from a 21-point deficit midway through the second quarter. The 21-point comeback win was the largest in school history for the Pack. Along with making the game-winning field goal, Smith was also a perfect 3-for-3 on extra points in the game and finished with six points.

On the season, Smith, who has only played in seven of the Pack's nine games, leads the RMAC in field goal percentage as he has made 92.3 percent of his field goals (12-for-13) and is fifth in the RMAC in scoring with 71 points, and his 10.1 points per game average is tops in the RMAC. His 12 made field goals are the second most in the league behind Mines' Preston Kyle's 13 field goals, while is 35 extra points are third-most in the RMAC. In addition, his school-record 60-yard field goal against New Mexico Highlands is the longest this season in Division II as the previous longest field goal was 56 yards.

In addition to Smith, the league named Colorado School of Mines sophomore running back Max Barnes as the Offensive Player of the Week and Chadron State redshirt senior linebacker Logan O'Brien as the Defensive Player of the Week. The Defensive Player of the Week honor for O'Brien is his fourth of the 2025 season.

Smith and the No. 6 ThunderWolves (8-1 overall, 7-0 RMAC) will return to the football field this Saturday, Nov. 8 with a 12 p.m. showdown in Golden, Colo., against Mines. The Pack has won 23 straight RMAC games dating to the 2023 season, which is currently the longest active conference win streak in Division II football and they have also won 14 straight road games dating to the 2023 season and that is also the longest active road win streak in Division II football.
