Volleyball Sweeps Second Day Of Steel City Showcase

Pack Start Season 3-0

PUEBLO, Colo. - The Colorado State University Pueblo Volleyball team continued their hot start, winning both games on Friday at the Steel City Showcase to start 3-0 on the young season.

The Pack defeated Lubbock Christian University, a tough Lone Star Conference and Regional opponent 3-1 to open up Friday, before concluding the evening with the primetime game to close out day two, with a 3-0 sweep of the University of Minnesota-Crookston.

With the two victories, CSU Pueblo improves to 3-0 on the season, while LCU falls to 1-1, and Minnesota Crookston falls to 2-1.

GAME ONE

All-American Sadie Scoville (Pleasant Grove, Utah/Pleasant Grove) continued her excellence as she led the Pack with 14 kills, three aces, and 22 digs.

Rayliene Joens (Elkhorn, Neb./Winona State) let her presence be known as a new Pack member, racking up 13 kills in the game, along with five blocks.

Sabrina King (Parker, Colo./Lutheran), and Hallie Hewlett (Bountiful, Utah/Bountiful) had a great game dishing out the ball with 22 and 21 assists respectively.

CSU Pueblo took a close first set 25-23. Lubbock Christian was able to respond in the second with a 25-21 victory, but the Pack wore down the Lady Chaps, winning set three 25-17, and set four 25-20.

GAME TWO

The Pack were once again led by Scoville and Joens on the offensive side of the ball. Scoville had 13 kills, while Joens recorded nine kills, and had four blocks.

Megan Mattingly (Phoenix, Ariz./Greenway) in her return to the ThunderWolves has been nothing short of tremendous, as the junior had her first breakout game back in a Pack uniform, recording seven kills, and 13 digs.

CSU Pueblo brought out the brooms and took down a good Minnesota-Crookston team that won their first two games of the tournament against Cal State East Bay, and Eastern New Mexico University. The Pack dominated from start to finish, winning two of the three sets by double-digits (25-18, 25-15, 25-15).

UP NEXT FOR THE PACK:

The ThunderWolves conclude the Steel City Showcase in the afternoon slate at 2:30 p.m. against regional opponent and LSC member, Eastern New Mexico on Saturday afternoon at Massari Arena.
