Volleyball Sweeps Season Opener In Steel City Showcase

PUEBLO, Colo. - The Colorado State University Pueblo volleyball squad opened up the 2024 season in dominant fashion, taking their opening game in the Steel City Showcase 3-0 over Lake Superior State University.

With the win, the Pack start the season 1-0, while LSSU falls to 0-1. The win propels Head Coach Austin Albers to 78-50 in his Pueblo coaching career.

Sadie Scoville (Pleasant Grove, Utah/Pleasant Grove) led the Pack offensively with 11 kills, and one ace. Scoville had a good night defensively as well, adding in four blocks.

Sabrina King (Parker, Colo./Lutheran) paced the Pack with 14 assists, while Macy Wood (Sandy, Utah/Alta) had a solid night defensively with six blocks to lead the Pack.

The Pack set the tone early on and never looked back. The ThunderWolves won the first three points in set one to take the momentum. LSSU did rally later in the set to tie the game at 11 apiece, but that is as close as they would come all night.

A 9-1 run gave CSU Pueblo a 20-12 lead, eventually leading to a 25-18 opening set victory.

Set two is where the Pack established their dominance, winning the second easily 25-12 thanks to six kills from Scoville in the set.

The Lakers put up a fight in the third set, but the Pack were able to pull away late with a 5-0 run to seal the victory.

UP NEXT FOR THE PACK:

CSU Pueblo continues the Steel City Showcase tomorrow against Lubbock Christian at 2:45 pm at Massari Arena.
