Curtis Named First-Team NCBWA All-South Central Regional Selection

RMAC Pitcher of the Year Tied for RMAC Lead in Wins (9) and Complete Games (3)

GOLDEN, Colo. – Colorado State University Pueblo senior starting pitcher Tyler Curtis (Las Vegas, Nev./Southern Idaho) has been named a First-Team All-South Central Region selection by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) as announced by the organization on Wednesday.

Curtis, who is the first Pack baseball player to earn NCBWA All-Region honors since third baseman Dakota Popham was a Second-Team honoree in 2019, earns his NCBWA First-Team All-South Central Region selection accolade after being named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year and a First-Team All-RMAC selection.

The NCBWA All-South Central Region teams were voted on by a committee of eight members with four from the RMAC and four from the Lone Star Conference. The Player of the Year, Pitcher of the Year and Coach of the Year were voted as separate categories. All first team members advance to the ballot for the 2024 NCBWA Division II All-America Team, which will be announced next week.

Curtis, who is one seven players from the RMAC named to the First-Team NCBWA All-South Central Region Team, finished the 2024 season tied for the RMAC lead in both wins (9) and complete games (3) and was second in the league in ERA (5.12), innings pitched (82.2) and strikeout-to-walk-ratio (4.53) and was third in the league in strikeouts (68).

On the season, Curtis made 13 starts and posted a 9-3 overall record and a 5.12 ERA. In 82.2 innings of work, he tossed three complete games, allowed 100 hits, 51 runs, 47 earned runs, while walking 15 and striking out a team-best 68. He recorded a 1/39 WHIP on the season and opposing hitting hit just .297 against the right-hander. He tossed six or more innings eight times and recorded six or more strikeouts in a start five times, including a career-high eight strikeouts against both UCCS and Adams State. His nine wins are 18th most in Division II this season, and he pitched a career-high nine innings against UCCS, which is tied for third-most innings in a game in school history.

Curtis, who was a transfer from the College of Southern Idaho, completed his two-year Pack career with a 13-6 overall record and a 5.03 career ERA. He made 26 appearances and 25 starts and tossed six complete games. In 157.1 career innings, Curtis allowed 207 hits, 108 runs, 88 earned runs, while walking just 30 and striking out 117.

The other RMAC players named to the First-Team NCBWA All-South Central Region Team were Colorado Mesa senior second baseman Jonathon Gonzalez, Colorado Mesa senior outfielder Rob Sharrar, MSU Denver junior outfielder Jesse Velders, MSU Denver senior designated hitter Zach Schuler, Colorado School of Mines senior utility player Luke Folsom and Regis senior relief pitcher Ethan Sloan.

Along with announcing the All-South Central Region Teams, the NCBWA also announced the region's Player of the Year, Pitcher of the Year and Coach of Year honorees and this year's honorees were Lubbock Christian senior shortstop Carson Ogilvie being named the Player of the Year, while UT Tyler junior Rawley Hector was tabbed the Pitcher of the Year and Lubbock Christian's Nathan Blackwood was named the Coach of the Year.

Angelo State, Colorado Mesa, Lubbock Christian and West Texas A&M led the way with four overall selections with all four of Angelo State's and Lubbock Christian's selections each being first team honorees. Overall, 13 different programs from the region had players named to one of the two All-Region Teams.

Curtis helped lead the Pack to a 29-23 overall and a sixth place finish in the RMAC with a 17-15 record. The Pack advanced to the RMAC Tournament where they went 1-2 overall and ended the season with a 4-1 setback to No. 3 seeded Mines in an elimination round game last Friday at The Diamond in Grand Junction, Colo.
