Track and Field Concludes Outdoor RMAC Championships

Men Finish Fifth, Women Seventh at Meet

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado State University Pueblo men's and women's Track and Field squads concluded the 2024 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships on Sunday at the campus of Colorado Mesa University.

The men's team finished fifth place with 67 total points, while the women's team finished seventh with 49 points. UCCS won the men's conference championship, while Colorado School of Mines won the women's conference championship.

The ThunderWolves played to their strengths and were paced by their throwers and long-distance runners once again on Sunday.

Justin Jenks (Helena, Mont./Helena Capital) added to his historic career another win, taking home gold in the men's shot put with a throw of 18.25m and an NCAA Provisional. Leonardo Ramos (Denver, Colo./Far Northeast) had a strong showing, as the young superstar finished third with a throw of 15.93m.

On the women's side, Katherine Higgins (Mead, Colo./Ponderosa) and Febe Wessels (Pretoria, South Africa), who have been fantastic all season, continued to shine. Higgins finished second in the shot put with a throw of 15.32m to bring home an NCAA Provisional, while Wessels finished third with a throw of 15.05m to also bring home an NCAA Provisional.

Jadyn Herron-Jonap (Queen Creek, Ariz./Casteel) continued her solid season as a long-distance runner, finishing in third in the women's 800m run with a time of 2:09.24 and an NCAA Provisional.

Joining Herron-Jonap in long-distance success was Margot Thomas-Gatel (Chapet, Ile-de-France) as the Frenchwoman finished ninth in the women's 5000m run with a time of 17:21.37 which broke a facility record.

The relay teams for the Pack also had success on the final day.

The women's 4x400 team of Gabrielle Dunich (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo Central), Herron-Jonap, Danaya Kinnard (Colorado Springs, Colo./Mesa Ridge), and Janise Everett (Colorado Springs, Colo./Mesa Ridge) finished fourth place with a time of 3:47.70 to bring home another NCAA Provisional for the ThunderWolves.

The women's 4x100m relay team of Skylar Kimble (Gig Harbor, Wash./Gig Harbor), Kinnard, Dunich, and Everett finished in sixth place with a time of 47.46, while the men's 4x100m relay of Cesar Sanchez Acosta (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo East), Evan Johnson (Aurora, Colo./Grandview), Mekhi Hubbard (Fountain, Colo./Mesa Ridge), and Nigel Mitchell (Red Bank, NJ/Red Bank Regional) finished in fourth place with a time of 42.01.

The ThunderWolves conclude the regular season when they host the CSU Pueblo Last Chance Meet on May 4-5 in Pueblo at the CSU Pueblo ThunderBowl.
