Baseball Displays Dominate Performance Against Adams State on Pack The Park Night

Curtis Records RMAC Leading Eighth Win, Ties Career High With Eight Strikeouts Against Grizzlies

PUEBLO, Colo. – The Colorado State University Pueblo Baseball Squad defeated Adams State University 15-3 at Runyon Field on Friday night in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play.

CSU Pueblo set a season high in attendance with 2,873 fans making their way to the Runyon Sports Complex to take in the ThunderWolves' 19th-Annual Pack the Park.

With the win, CSU Pueblo improves to 24-18 overall, and 13-12 in conference play, while the second place Grizzlies fall to 18-21 overall, and 13-8 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Pack dominated game one from start to finish. Senior pitcher Tyler Curtis (Las Vegas, Nev./Southern Idaho) led the way for the Pack, despite the ThunderWolves putting on an offensive display.

Curtis picked up an RMAC leading eighth win to improve to 8-2 on the season, while recording a career high eight strikeouts in his third complete game of the season.

The Pack threw the first punch in the second inning when junior shortstop Rob Mansour (LaVerne, Calif./Cuesta College) drove in a run on an RBI single to right field. Adams State Mike Bathauer answered with an RBI single in the bottom of the third and the score was 1-1 after the top of the third.

CSU Pueblo broke open the game in the bottom of the third inning when the Pack exploded for seven runs.

Junior Elijah Borjas (Denver, Colo./Lakewood) opened the third with a two-run RBI double to put the Pack up 3-1. Junior Kade Snodgrass (Derby, Kan./Neosho County) followed that up with an RBI double, which was followed by a Brad Stone (Las Vegas, Nev./Southern Nevada) RBI single through the right side to put the Pack up 5-1.

The ThunderWolves continued the onslaught when Stone scored on a wild pitch, which was followed up by the Pack scoring two more runs on a throwing error by the Grizzlies. That concluded the scoring for CSU Pueblo in the inning and the Pack took an 8-1 lead after just three innings.

Adams State was able to get a few of those runs back as rain started to consume Runyon Field, when Caleb Eiguren singled in a run through the left side. The Grizzlies got another run across the board when Phil Carter grounded into a run scoring double play to cut the lead down to 8-3.

With Curtis dominating on the mound for the Pack, surprisingly that was not the highlight of the game. Leading by five runs in the sixth inning, senior Christian Castaneda (El Paso, Texas/Otero JC) stepped up and hit a towering 420 plus foot homerun over the centerfield wall off CJ Pino in the rain to officially put the game out of reach at 10-3.

Junior Kysen Howard (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley Northwest) decided to jump in on the party and followed up Castaneda with a moonshot of his own, launching a solo homerun over the left field wall on back-to-back homeruns to put the Pack up 11-3.

Leading by eight runs, the ThunderWolves continued to pour it on the Adams State bullpen. Junior catcher Brady Ingalls (Parker, Colo./Ponderosa) singled in a run through the left side to extend the lead to 11. Mansour stepped up and also singled in a run through the left side to put CSU Pueblo up 13-3.

Freshman Logan Kelly (San Juan Capistrano, Calif./Capistrano Valley Christian) polished off the game when he doubled in two runs to left field to officially run rule the Grizzlies, giving the Pack a 15-3 victory.
