GOLDEN, Colo./Missoula, Mont. – The Colorado State University Pueblo Men's and Women's Track and Field squads had an impressive weekend as the squads split going to two separate meets.
CSU Pueblo sent nine student athletes to the Kit Meyer Classic which was hosted by Colorado School of Mines. The Pack also sent three throwers to the Montana Open which was hosted by the University of Montana.
MONTANA OPEN
This was a homecoming for thrower
Justin Jenks (Helena, Mont./Helena Capital) and he did not disappoint for the home fans. Jenks easily won the men's shot put with a mark of 18.21 meters, almost winning by two entire meters. Jenks also won the hammer throw in dominant fashion with a mark 59.59 meters, winning by more than three meters.
Katherine Higgins (Mead, Colo./Ponderosa) and
Febe Wessels (Pretoria, South Africa) also had dominant performances in the division one meet. Higgins won the women's shot put with a mark of 15.69 meters, while Wessels finished second with a mark of 13.93 meters.
In the women's discus, Higgins finished second with a mark of 41.72 meters, while Wessels finished fifth with a mark of 40.01 meters. In the women's hammer throw, Higgins finished third with a mark of 47.61 meters, while Wessels finished eighth with a mark of 42.73 meters.
KIT MEYER CLASSIC
CSU Pueblo was once again led by the throwers at the Kit Meyer Classic.
Leonardo Ramos (Denver, Colo./Far Northeast) led the way for the Pack as he won the men's shot put with a mark of 16.10 meters. Ramos also had a strong showing in the men's hammer throw, as he finished third with a mark of 55.21 meters.
Maverik Mertens (New Raymer, Colo./Prairie) had a strong showing in the men's javelin as he finished second with a mark of 46.91 meters. Mertens also finished ninth place in the men's hammer throw.
Mekhi Hubbard (Fountain, Colo./Mesa Ridge) had a strong showing in the sprinting events, as the freshman finished eighth in the men's 100 meters with a time of 11.27. Hubbard also had a strong showing in the men's 200 meters with a time of 23.53.

CSU Pueblo will gear up for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships which will take place from April 26-28 in Grand Junction, Colo.
