Track and Field Wins Eight Events at Chuck Haering Home Meet

PUEBLO, Colo. – The Colorado State University Pueblo Men's and Women's Track and Field squads competed at the Chuck Haering Open Invitational, hosted by CSU Pueblo at the ThunderBowl on Saturday afternoon.

The Pack had numerous athletes competing in the home event. CSU Pueblo won eight events on the day. At 12:00 pm today, CSU Pueblo honored the family of Chuck Haering, a former Pack Track and Field legend.

The 4x100 men's relay team kicked off the day with a win, as the squad of freshman Mekhi Hubbard (Fountain, Colo./Mesa Ridge), senior Tyrell Smith (Colorado Springs, Colo./Mesa Ridge), sophomore Evan Johnson (Aurora, Colo./Grandview), and senior Nigel Mitchell (Red Bank, NJ/Red Bank Regional) took home the victory with a time of 41.58.

The 4x100 women's relay team followed up the men with a win of their own, as the squad of sophomore Skyler Kimble (Gig Harbor, Wash./Gig Harbor), freshman Danaya Kinnard (Colorado Springs, Colo./Mesa Ridge), sophomore Gabrielle Dunich (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo Central), and freshman (Colorado Springs, Colo./Mesa Ridge) took home the victory with a time of 47.71.

Smith won the men's 400-meter dash with a time of 48.05, junior Kaleb Beloy (Anchorage, Alaska/South Alaska) won the men's 3000 meter run with a time of 8:39.84.

Sophomore Moosah Alsaffar (Aurora, Colo./Grandview) won the men's javelin with a mark of 179' 7.5". Graduate student Justin Jenks (Helena, Mont./Helena Capital) easily won the men's shot put with a mark of 59' 2.5" and picked up an NCAA DII Provisional, while sophomore Leonardo Ramos (Denver, Colo./Far Northeast) finished runner-up to Jenks.

Jenks also won the men's hammer throw easily as the All-American took home first with a mark of 190' 2.25" to win by double-digits and pick up an NCAA DII Provisional. Junior Katherine Higgins (Mead, Colo./Ponderosa) won the women's shot put as she had a mark of 49' 0" to take home the victory. Sophomore Febe Wessels (Pretoria, South Africa) finished third in the women's shot put and picked up an NCAA DII Provisional.

Also having success on the day were the two Frenchwomen. Freshman Camille Renou (Chalonnes, France/AS Saint-Barthelemy) and senior Margot Thomas-Gatel (Chapet, Ile-de-France/Notre Dame Les Oiseaux) both picked up NCAA DII Provisionals in the women's 1500 meters.
