Women's Lacrosse Begins Five-Game Road Trip With Setback at No. 9 Regis

DENVER, Colo. – The Colorado State University Pueblo women's lacrosse team began a five-game road trip here Wednesday afternoon with a 19-1 setback to ninth-ranked Regis University in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action at the Regis Turf Fields.

With the setback, the ThunderWolves fall to 2-5 overall and 0-3 in the RMAC, while Regis improves to 8-1 overall and 2-0 in the RMAC. The setback was the first this season for the Pack on the road as they entered the game with a 2-0 road record.

The one game was the fewest scored for the Pack this season and their lowest total since being held to one goal in a 19-1 loss in last season's home finale against Colorado Mesa.

Regis, who has now won four straight games, opened the game by scoring 13 goals in the first two periods as the Rangers led 9-0 after the first period and held a 13-0 lead at the half.

After Regis opened the third period with a goal from Justine Spaeth just six-plus minutes into the period, the Pack would finally dent the scoreboard on an unassisted goal by sophomore attacker Elise Magee (Port Moody, British Columbia/Dr. Charles Best Secondary) with 4:36 left in the period. Magee's goal was her 14th of the season, which is second-most on the team.

Regis would cap the scoring with five goals in the final period to set the final margin.

The Pack played Wednesday's game without its leading goal scorer, graduate student midfielder Caira Lessick (Oregon City, Ore./Oregon City) and its top goalie, freshman Breonna Mason (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy). Both players sat out the game due to injuries.

Regis spread its scoring amongst eight players as Maggie Schipfer led the way with six goals, while Gabby Rothermund and Shea Murphy each had three goals. Bailey Truex and Lily Ferguson tallied two goals each in the win. Schipfer added three assists as Regis recorded 13 assists for the game.

The Pack finished the game with nine shots, including putting eight of those shots on goal and tallied 17 ground balls, including four from junior goalie Naomi Price-Burton (Aurora, Colo./Grandview). Graduate student attacker Sedona Sargent (Bellingham, Wash./Sehome) took five of the Pack's nine shots.

Senior midfielder Baylee Mee (Reno, Nev./Galena) finished with five draw controls, four caused turnovers and two ground balls against the Rangers. Regis held a slight 12-8 edge in draw controls on the game.

The teams combined for nearly as many turnovers (42) and shots taken (43) in the game. Regis took 34 shots and had 25 shots on goal.

Regis was strong on clears in the game as they went 16-for-17, while the Pack was just 12-for-22 on clears.

Price-Burton played all 60 minutes in goal for Mason on Wednesday and tallied six saves and four ground balls.

Elizabeth Mayotte played all 60 minutes in goal for Regis and finished with seven saves in the win.

The Pack will look to halt its three-game losing skid this coming Saturday, March 30 as they travel to Colorado Springs, Colo., for a 1 p.m. RMAC contest against UCCS.
