PUEBLO, Colo. – Colorado State University Pueblo women's lacrosse concluded a busy week of action here Sunday afternoon with a 15-4 setback to Colorado Mesa University in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference contest at the Art and Lorraine Gonzalez Soccer and Lacrosse Stadium.
Sunday's game was the fourth and final game of the week for the ThunderWolves as they opened the week with back-to-back wins in Ohio against Lake Erie College (17-9) and at Tiffin (23-11), before opening RMAC play on Saturday with a 14-3 setback to Westminster and then concluding the week with the home setback to Colorado Mesa.
With the loss, the Pack falls to 2-4 overall and 0-2 in the RMAC, while Mesa, who earned votes in the most recent ILWomen/IWLCA Division II Poll, improves to 2-2 overall and 2-0 in the RMAC.
After keeping the game close in the first period as the Pack trailed just 5-2, including trailing just 3-2 following back-to-back goals by senior midfielder
Baylee Mee (Reno, Nev./Galena) midway through the period. Mee's goals were assisted by sophomore attacker
Elise Magee (Port Moody, British Columbia/Dr. Charles Best Secondary) and graduate student attacker
Sedona Sargent (Bellingham, Wash./Sehome) respectively.
Following the first period, the Mavericks scored nine straight goals in the second and third periods to lead 14-2 after the third period. Mesa scored seven goals in the second period to lead 12-2 at the half and added two goals in the third period.
In the fourth period, the Pack used unassisted goals by Sargent and Magee to outscore the Mavs, 2-1, in the final period.
The Pack played Sunday's game without their leading goal and point scorer on the season as graduate student
Caira Lessick (Oregon City, Ore./Oregon City) sat out due to an injury suffered in Saturday's game against Westminster.
Mesa outshot the Pack, 49-13 and held a 29-10 edge in shots on goal. Magee and Mee each took four shots for the Pack, while Sargent added three.
The Pack also finished with eight draw controls and collected 16 ground balls, including five ground balls by redshirt freshman defender
Lani McCombs (San Diego, Calif./Patrick Henry). Mee had four draw controls for the Pack.
Colorado Mesa had 15 draw controls and had 23 ground balls.
One area where the Pack struggled in Sunday game was on clears as Mesa was a perfect 21-for-21 on clears, while the Pack was just 18-for-32 on clears.

Breonna Mason (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy) recorded 14 saves and added three ground balls and a team-best two caused turnovers.
Colorado Mesa, who has now won two straight games, got 15 goals from nine different players, including two goals each by Justine Anderson, Ali Bryant, Sofia Chock, Carson Dickey, Courteney Murray, and Caroline Ohngemac. Shannon Murphy played all 60 minutes in goal and recorded six saves and had two ground balls.
The Pack will now take 10 days off before returning to action on Wednesday, March 27 with a 4 p.m. RMAC game in Denver, Colo., against fifth-ranked Regis.
